Is it normal to have very mild symptoms at five weeks?

Hi all :) I am currently 5 weeks and 4 days pregnant and absolutely delighted. I tested on Monday two days before my period was due as I had been woken up twice in the night by lower tummy cramps that just felt different to usual. Had an immediate positive then the same the evening my period would have been due. Clear blue says 3 weeks. I did have a seriously bad migraine on the first day and it made me projectile vomit about 3 times in the evening but I am not convinced it was from my pregnancy as I'd had a day in a HR meeting as a witness of something at work that stressed me out, next day and all the days after I've had no symptoms except lower ( mild ) belly cramps that come and go and tiredness meaning I need a nap in the middle of the day which I've never done. Sorry if this is a silly question but is this enough? I almost feel too well and normal! All I keep seeing are people talking about their symptoms and I worry I don't feel pregnant enough. Thank you!

I never had symptoms, not even one day of morning sickness. The only indication I had of being pregnant was the test.

Ahhh thank you so much, I think people are maybe more inclined to post ( understandably ) when they're suffering with quite a few so I've been thinking 🤔. Did you carry on testing or just leave it til your first scan?

I didn’t keep testing because I have seen people drive themselves crazy analysing whether or not the line is progressing properly.

Symptoms are extremely individual. No-one has everything from the list, and the online lists will contain everything which let's say 10% plus will face to reassure women that it's ok.
Plus, people will write about what bothers them, not about what doesn't.

I haven't vomited once in 3 months. I was really tired, got strange cramps, achy guts and appetite for Haribo.

JontyGentooey · 13/06/2026 20:21

I had no symptoms at all with my first, it stressed me out a lot! I remember my mum asking if I'd had any sickness, fatigue, cramps, etc etc and I said nope nope nope and she said wow what a considerate little baby. All was absolutely fine with DD. Congratulations!

Not everyone gets symptoms. I did but not as early as you are - it started ramping up at about 7 weeks for me and was worse from 8 weeks.

pampampamela · 13/06/2026 20:23

Ahhh thank you for the reassurance everyone, when did you all get your first scans through? Not sure whether to get a private or not. I'm not as anxious as I sound haha I just feel impatient!

At this stage, you should expect some light cramping as it implants. At about 6-8 weeks, the placenta develops and takes over and that’s when most people will get morning sickness but I think it’s about 20% that don’t get any morning sickness.

There’s a really wide range of symptoms and each pregnancy is different. I had terrible nausea but every other symptom I had were not the well known ones.

I didn’t have any private scans. I had my first scan at 10 weeks because of my dates it was meant to be my 12 week scan.

DisorganisedMummyTurningOrgnaised · 13/06/2026 20:29

I think I had cramping at around 5 weeks and then all of a sudden woke up one morning an and was hit by nausea and vomiting and fatigue that didn’t subside till 18ish weeks. Some people feel nothing, others feel it all. If it’s intense cramping and shoulder pain (I think) get it checked ASAP.

FourGreenElephants · 13/06/2026 20:30

Unless you have specific concerns (previous loses, one side pain - potential ectopic, serious symptoms), there's no benefit to early scan.
Take the folic acid and wait.

For now all the work is on the foetus. If it manages to divide it's cell correctly, it will continue, get a heart beat and create organs.

If the development process makes a significant error, it will stop and give you a chance to try again instead.

@pampampamela I’m also 5 weeks 4 days with my first! So far I’ve just had headaches, bloating and nausea feeling but not been sick. Think I’ll book a 7/8 week private scan as 12 weeks seems so far away! I’ve only tested the once!

DisorganisedMummyTurningOrgnaised · 13/06/2026 20:32

just to add, I wouldn’t keep testing. I had a silent miscarriage and though they aren’t common, your body still thinks you’re pregnant so tests would have still been positive for me. It’s better to wait.

Ahhh welcome to the February baby club! ❤️ you sound like me. Don't get me wrong I don't want to be plagued by symptoms lol but it's just a bit of a wait isn't it.

Thank you so much everyone for your detailed replies, hoping so much for everything to progress nicely and hopefully once I have a proper bump I can relax a bit! Enjoying nap time though, dh has said he 'insists' I take it easy so I am 😂

Thank you, tbh I'd rather not test to let my bank balance recover after ttc for so long haha

I had no symptoms except extreme tiredness from 10-12 weeks. Enjoy it, next pregnancy would be completely opposite x

I had 2 early scans with my first, 7 weeks and 9 weeks I think, because I had a really tiny bit of spotting and was an absolute bag of nerves. All was fine at both the early scans although they really can't tell you much apart from there's a baby and a heartbeat, all looks ok for now.

With my second pregnancy I waited till the NHS one at 12 weeks, I didn't have any spotting and was a whole lot more relaxed/too busy tearing around after my toddler to have any headspace to worry much! All was fine with both of them. I personally found the early scans reassuring, but that's just my experience.

AlwaysPurple · 13/06/2026 20:37

I had minimal symptoms with my first, to the extent I was starting to doubt I was actually pregnant in the run up to my 12 week scan (and was really surprised they don't do a test at midwife booking in appt). All turned out fine, DD is now 2. But I'm currently 16 weeks with twins and it has been completely different - tiredness and nausea. So even for same woman it can vary between pregnancies!

Springcloud26 · 13/06/2026 20:49

@pampampamela thank you! 💕 I know what you mean, I’m worried about how I will hide any symptoms over the next few weeks while it’s still very early! Trying to take it one day at a time 😊

mayflowers9 · 13/06/2026 20:52

Congratulations! I felt like this with both my pregnancies but the nausea and exhaustion really settled in from about week 8.

Rainbowmum32 · 13/06/2026 20:53

I could of written this, I was really panicking as I’d didn’t have any symptoms until today. I’m now 6 weeks 2 days and today the nausea has hit me like a brick wall x

SemmaLina · 13/06/2026 21:22

My DC are grown up now , but I still remember my “ non symptoms”
Horrid metallic taste in my mouth
Extreme tiredness
Restless legs
In 2 pregnancies I had one day of morning sickness

TheyGrewUp · 13/06/2026 21:32

In three pgs not a single minute of nausea or sickness. I was tired and I'd never experienced hunger like it from 6/7 weeks. And very tender boobs from very early on, tender enough to buy a sleeping bra. Oh, and a net work of blue, visible veins on my boobs.
