Hi ladies,

hoping for anyone who may of had a similar experience to me as I’m spiralling.

i found out I was pregnant last month and going off the info i’ve put in the Premom app and ChatGPT I’ve dated at 6 weeks 5/6 days. I’ve just had an early nhs ultrasound as after a mmc last year my anxiety has just been on another level! However my anxiety was only relieved for about 10 minutes until I got home and started googling!

I’ve been dated at 6 weeks exactly. Heartbeat was seen flickering away. Originally CRL measuring 3mm but she managed to get a better view and the measurement changed to 5mm.

I said I thought I should be at least 6.5 weeks but she said they don’t tend to measure like that this early on because everything is so small and hard to measure. She said they’re mainly looking for a heartbeat which she said looked good.

Well now after reading through threads in here I just can’t see a positive outcome for measuring behind.

If anyone has been through this I would appreciate your experiences. I feel like I’m just constantly preparing myself for the worst.

thank you x

Oh my goodness OP, totally understandable why you feel so anxious after the mmc, that must have been really traumatic, but you have absolutely nothing to worry about here. Like they said, at this early stage it's really really hard to measure anything accurately - the unreliability of the measurements at this stage is why they only really mind about whether there is a heatbeat or not (and yours has one). An example of how unreliable measures are you've already seen in this same appointment - their measurement suddenly changed from 3mm to 5mm when changing the angle (that's an error margin of almost double!!!). So them dating you as 6 weeks if you are in fact 6 weeks 6 days is well well well within the standard error margins of the ultrasound dating process. I'm a doctor (though not practicing any more), I promise you you don't need to be worrying about such a tiny difference

As above said I really wouldn’t worry!
I had a similar situation to you in my last pregnancy. I had to have an early scan due to a previous ectopic.
I believed I was 6+4, and they measured me at 5+1. Like you, I went home with my mind racing that it didn’t look positive. However at my actual dating scan, they measured me as 13+2 which is what I would’ve thought I’d have been if it wasn’t for the early scan.
The sonographer said at an early scan everything is too small for accurate measurements, and your dating scan is the only reliable measurement.
congrats on your pregnancy!
