Worried after early scan measuring behind confirmed dates with no heartbeat yet

TW: potential miscarriage.

Hi everyone, I went for a scan at the early pregnancy unit today due to on going spotting for a few days.

My LMP: 7th April
Ovulation: give or take a day 27th April - I know this as I tracked it with LH and BBT and we only baby danced 25th and 26th April.

Got my first positive at 9DPO

So from my calculations I’d be roughly 6w3d

They couldn’t see a heartbeat but the saw the fetal pole however it was measuring at 1.7mm and they’ve called me back for a rescan in 10 days.

I’m so worried as I asked what does this reflect dates wise and they said around 5-5.5 weeks 😕😭

That is less than what I’ve calculated I’d be with my dates, I’m so scared this means that baby has stopped developing as id expect the fetal pole to be bigger..

I’ve been continuously spotting for around a week now aswell, nothing on a pad but just when I wipe.

Anyone with similar experience?

Was it a transvaginal ultrasound? If so and you’re 100% sure of your dates, I’d expect a professional to be able to detect a faint heartbeat. At that gestation the heart has only just developed but it’s detectable. Given your bleeding though I wouldn’t be hopeful.

Yes it was transvaginal.
They said not to worry as it can still be too early but yeah I’m preparing for the worst. I have a rescan in 10 days 😔

Keeping everything crossed that everything is ok. Early scans can feel very scary sometime

I've had this go both ways op. Losses and my 9mo currently asleep on me. It's absolutely horrendous playing the waiting game but unfortunately nothing else you can do. Sending my best x

i went for a scan today 10 days later and there was fetal pole measuring 9mm with a heartbeat 🤍

Hi, i’m currently in a very similar situation and that I’m meant to be 6w+2 today and I’ve just been at the EPU this morning and they’ve measured me at five weeks exactly. They’ve scheduled a rescan in two weeks but I’m feeling really nervous and not optimistic at all. Did they say why the dates could be so different from what you believe they should be and what the baby has measured at? Really relieved to hear that everything is okay 😊

i was 100% sure of my dates hence i was super worried but there was still significant growth and a heartbeat so im hoping it continues because im still abit anxious as im measuring a week behind.

so they didnt seem too concerned at the EPU they said that when baby is this small they can just grow slow and measurements can be off as they’re measuring in mm and by 12 weeks its easier for them to measure so naturally baby can just catch up then.

im still on the anxious side though purely because im wondering why im measuring behind but ive heard many stories of people measuring behind and then by 12 weeks catching up so im praying thats what happens in my scenario!

Thanks for your response and kind words. Im 100% on the dates of my LMP and conception (because we only had sex once last month!). I know that sperm can hang around for a few days though but even so, it wouldnt account for 9 days difference between my dates and the scan i dont think?

im not 100% when i ovulated because i didnt test this month, but the previous month it was around day 20 which would match up to the date we had sex in May.

i’ve booked a private scan a week today because waiting 2 weeks will just kill me. If there’s nothing there next week (when i should be 6+1 as a minimum by the new dates), then at least i will know! Xx
