IVF 7 week scan - gestational sac 1 week behind

Hello, Yesterday we had our 7 week scan after our first successful ivf round. It all started so well - she congratulated us as could see baby and “strong heartbeat” (didn’t mention specific heart rate). RSL measured a few days behind, 6 weeks 4 day but she didn’t seem too worried.

Then she measured the gestational sac which measured 5 weeks 6 days. Suddenly, despite all the other positives, she seemed all doom and gloom, telling us that we may not see a heart beat next scan and that there’s a 50/50 chance it will work out.

just looking for any other similar experiences, reassurance in this situation, success stories?

I know that they need to prepare us for the worst but it was such a sudden u-turn and now I am spiralling for the next 10 days before our follow up scan.

TIA xxx

big hug as I have been there myself, although a long time ago - our IVF / ICSI baby is now 25. We consistently were a good week or so behind in the growth of the gestational sac, even from the beginning. I don’t remember there being a huge panic about it but there was concern. Our heart beat was good, very strong and they did focus on that. It did all catch up eventually but through out the pregnancy, growth was always behind and I do remember having to explain my dates over and over again as we knew when our little one was conceived. Wishing you lots of luck and best wishes. It’s a very hard process and pregnancy after is nail biting xx thinking of you

Edited as i never actually explained that we were behind in dates 🤦‍♀️

I went through this with my IVF twins - one twins sac was half the size of the other right from 6 weeks- baby measured a day or so behind but sac was over a week. I did far too much google research and round an obscure research paper about small sac and minimum it could be before chance of miscarriage was much higher. My twin was right on that limit. I also read about drinking lots of water…… so I drank and drank until I literally sloshed 🥴 by 10 weeks the sac size difference was much less and twins made it to 34 weeks x

@TeddyOBear @usererror99 Thank you so much for taking the time to reply, and really pleased to hear it all worked out for both of you. I am literally sloshing with all the water I’m drinking right now too, im sure it doesn’t make a huge difference but anything you feel you can control is a plus isn’t it!

I am feeling a little more positive now than a few days ago, thanks :) I’ve tried to switch my mindset to focusing on the fact that there’s obviously something still in there, as I haven’t had any bleeds or anything 🤞, and that’s helping me psychologically xxx

Bless you. Take it easy and try to remain positive, although it’s so very hard. Yes, completely agree, in a process where you seem to have no control, you latch onto those things you can.
please look after yourself. You’re in my thoughts x
