I am 38, just turned. Have very strong hormones. Am very regular. Cycle usually 26-28 days but recently gone down to 24 and usually picks back up again. Periods usually last 5-7 days and very heavy first Two days. Not usually one for extreme cramps though.

I am 3 days late. I thought I was pregnant, did a test, negative. I have been cramping for over a week. But usual signs of pregnancy for me my boobs really hurt and tummy very hard - I don’t have this. I am very bloated, gassy, feel slightly nauseous but that is a normal period sign. The strangest thing is the tummy aching and cramps that have been going on for so long. But I don’t particularly feel pregnant. I feel normal. Recently had bloods done and stool sample etc but everything normal.

What do you think? What would you do?

I only ever got bfp after I was 7 days late

Did you get early positives previously?

CBC123 · 28/05/2026 20:04

Ive had two pregnancies before - both I had sore boobs and nausea and very very bloated very early on. Both same gender?! But I tested positive on day 2 of missed period, I tested yesterday on day 2 and was a very clear negative… but just feels strange

Keep testing and if nothing in 7 days you could get a blood test to see if you are menopausal

It would be quite surprising if you were peri at 38…. Unless early menopause runs in your family

I know, I don’t think so. I just have no idea what’s going on! Still no period, 5 days late and no sign. But did another test yesterday and negative. Feel run down and belly achey but nothing crazy. Gahhhh

I've not long turned 40 and my cycles are usually every 24-26 days, but I have had one or two as long as 30 days in the last couple of years. I'm currently on day 35 with no period and negative tests, so also thinking it could be perimenopause. I don't normally get period pains but I am having mild stomach cramps.

Previous pregnancy tested positive on day 31.

I'd suggest giving it a few more days and then testing again (as I will be doing).

It is confusing when you're normally really regular and the only time I've ever gone this far over was my last pregnancy.
