addicted to coffee. I must have one of those addictive personalities i keep reading about. Finding out i was pregnant with number 3 was a bit of a shock, but that same day out went the fags and the nightly bottle glass of wine but...somewhere along the way, my coffee consumption has crept up! I am up to 4 cups a day, and need to know if this is BAD. I am 24 weeks.

You know when me and DP start arguing, i find myself rushing for the kettle thinking...coffee coffee coffee

fresh coffee? If so, then you should cut down (especially if you drink tea as well) Instant, it's probably fine, but 4 cups of real coffee is quite a lot. I stick to one but I drink 2-3 cups of tea as well.

noo instant, i am far too cheap for real coffee! i dont actually like real coffee, it always seems to have floaty bits in it that the cafetiere thingy misses.

I've just googled and found this on Babycentre. Seems to be research into safe levels but anecdotal evidence that it's not such a good thing. HAve a read and make up your own mind I guess

try not to worry too much, go decaf [kenco one is nice] if you have a real guilt thing going on. take my hat off to you cos i couldn't even be in the room with coffee in any of my pgs
Couldn't you try getting addicted to um, orange juice or water or something???!!

justageek · 22/06/2008 21:17

thanks for that PSW (i used to have a lovely pair of pink spotty wellies when i was a little girl, i cried when i grew out of them!) i have had a browse and deemed that 4 is okay but anymore is a no no!

Gigglewitch, thats the bizarre thing, if i go near decaf, i hate it! Its like my brain says, nope thats got nothing in it that will wire me, so i refuse to let you enjoy it!

My mum has a bit of a thing about decaf being worse than caffeine because of the process of removing the caffeine - not very pleasant apparently, but don't know why!

gigglewitch · 22/06/2008 21:37

OK. (here goes...)
water is VERY VERY bad for you. and really horribly addictive. shocking stuff.

pinkspottywellies · 22/06/2008 21:43

Yes I heard that about water. And that you can get a real crazy buzz off cammomile tea! Try it justageek. Dare ya

justageek · 22/06/2008 23:06

ooh reverse psychology gigglewitch!

I know what will happen though, i will begin to get migraines at about 34 weeks gone (like previous pregnancies) and will cut out coffee for fear of it being a trigger, drink loads of water to avoid dehydration causing it and spend the last 6 weeks of pregnancy constantly weeing (on toilet and when laughing to hard) and stomping about in a mood because of a lack of addictive chemicals.

I'm so with you, justageek! I don't smoke but have lived without my wine for 35 weeks 2 days now and although cannot drink more than two cups a coffee a day (won't sleep otherwise) I'm taking those two cups like I normally take my wine (waiting for those pick-me-up chemicals). Cannot understand when someone suggests decaf or non-alcoholic wine -erm what's the point? Having to give up wine AND cigarettes, cannot imagine, you're doing great!!! Four cups of instant coffee should be absolutely fine (believe me, in my home country Finland most pregnant women drink at least that and more). Good to hear I'm not alone, justageek, thanks for your post.
