When to try for a second baby with a new job

I’m not really sure what answers I’m looking for but maybe personal experiences of similar situations would help us decide.

We have one child who has just turned 3 and are planning when is best to have our second. We don’t want to leave it much longer but a few things are making it hard to decide when is best.

Ideally we would like to try this year but I am a teacher and start a new job at a new school in September, maternity pay wouldn’t be an issue but I’m worried about starting and then a few months later saying oh BTW I’m pregnant! I also have arthritis so worried about that but also concerned it is probably best to have a baby sooner rather than later!

I love the idea of having that time off with my 3 year old before she goes to school in September 2027 and her being able to bond at home with the baby. This will be the last chance we have to do this as she will be in school after next summer.

Basically do I go with my heart and we potentially have a baby in Spring next year so I get the time off with my daughter and the baby together and just grin and bear the grumbles from my new job, or should we wait?

thanks!

Why is this even a question, just go for it now.

Remember you can plan when to start TTC but not when you will have your baby!

TTC my second I went from a March due date with a 4y7m year age gap to an October due date with a 5y2m after 2 mi
I had hoped that an October due date would have meant that I would have a special summer holiday with my first and a chance to settle her back into school before baby brother arrived. What happened instead was me spending August in and out of hospital and too unwell to look after my eldest, two assessments for preterm labour and baby arrived on her first day back at school so she had neither parent to take her. I cared much more than she did!

Go for it! I started a new job in June, was pregnant in the Oct. I have known people go for a promotion knowing they are pregnant, sign the paperwork then say by the way…

There is never a good time and you can always think of reasons not too. Plus you ever know if it will take a while to fall pregnant.
