Hi just looking for some support. Im 6+3 weeks pregnant and had some dark brown spotting on Wednesday (just back from Holiday so only posting now). It was only on the loo roll after I had gone to the bathroom (sorry if TMI!) and only lasted 1 day. I have an early scan booked for Tuesday morning and Im driving myself insane with worry. I have a DS who is almost 2 and didnt have anything like this when pregnant with him.

try not to worry too much! my sis had light spotting for a few days in her current pregnancy quite early on! she is 4.5 months now and everything is going fine!

more than likely nothing. put your feet up and rest just incase. thats what doc told my sis to do while she was waiting for her scan!

good luck at the scan sure things will be fine x

meemar · 22/06/2008 11:30

hi prawnsmum, it is worrying but dark brown spotting especially is usually not so much of a problem. I had this and the midwife told me it's dark because the blood is old and is usually caused by cervical erosion rather than bleeding from the uterus.

EBenes · 22/06/2008 11:31

I had light spotting in this pregnancy at 8 weeks and was CONVINCED it was the end of my pregnancy, told dh I knew it was over. Scan showed a little regular heartbeat and I still seem to be pregnant 8 weeks later. I had a missed mc before this which began with spotting and quickly turned to lots of blood and no blood in my first successful pregnancy, so I was absolutely sure blood always meant mc. It does NOT.

prawnsmum · 22/06/2008 11:36

Thanks its comforting to hear other people have gone through the same thing and had a positive outcome. DH being really supportive but I feel better knowing im not alone IYSWIM!

I had this with both dd's,both are now causing havoc downstairs whilst I type.

Mine was at about 6-8 weeks and then on & off until about 14wks.No cause was ever found, but I can still remember how terrified I was.

Apparently, more people bleed during pregnancy than don't,but it isn't talked about, possibly because everyone assumes bleeding=miscarrage.

My mum bled so much whilst pg with my sister, that she didn't realise she was pg until she was 4 months plus. She thought she was having really odd periods.

Hope it all works out well for you.

I had it too at 6 weeks- DD is now 11 months old. Also had it at 8 weeks and 21 weeks- straight after my scan. I think the sonographer was a bit rough..
Don't worry- sure everything will be fine.
I'm just pg again and booked in for a 7 week scan next week so I know what it's like waiting for it

mel2005 · 22/06/2008 17:36

i had this last week, just for one day on thursday/friday, i am 11 wks today and am terrified that it meant a mc is comming, my scan is on tue so i havent called the mw as there is nothing they can do and i dont want to take a scan space up when i have one on tue anyway.
fingers crossed for you. i know exactly how you feel. when i had my early mc in feb it did start really heavy. i have read that something like 25% of pregnant women suffer from some early bleeding and still have healthy babies. i didnt have any bleeding with both my previous babies.

mrsboogie · 22/06/2008 18:16

I had this too - between 8 and 14 weeks, having previously had a mm/c I was terrified but it did not result in m/c. thank god. I was interested to see the poster above saying she had it after a scan - when it happened to me it was the day after a scan each time. I can't imagine why they would be related.

dan39 · 22/06/2008 18:39

Me too, then very red blood this week which led to early scan, was told \i have a haemorrage on uterus wall but the bean with a heartbeat is 7 weeks and fine - so bleeding not always awful!

funnypeculiar · 22/06/2008 18:42

Hello Another one who bled a few times in early pg (well, throughout pg with ds) - both pgs ended happily. As others have said, it's actually really common, just not much talked about - my mw reckoned could be as high as 1 in 3 pgs . And as many have said, brown blood = old blood= a good sign.

Hopefully it'll just mean you get an extra scan piccie of your lo. Good luck!

crokky · 22/06/2008 18:50

bled like this with both mine, both were born fine so try not to worry. Esp as blood is brown, it means it is old blood.

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 22/06/2008 19:05

Red blood is a bad sign because it's fresh, but brown blood is old so much less likely to be anything worrying!
xx

Sophrosyne1 · 23/06/2008 08:28

Hi,

I had lots of bleeding from 6 weeks right up until 17 weeks, on one occassion I passed a huge red clot almost the size of my hand and definitely believed that this was the end of the pregnancy (especially as I had already suffered a miscarriage at 10 weeks two years ago). It wasn't. I am nearly 37 weeks now, all my scans and appointments have shown that my baby is healthy and well. Won't be perfectly convinced until she is here but want to reassure you that bleeding is more common than you think and, while you should always get things checked out, even very frightening episodes of bleeding needn't mean that you are miscarrying.

Good Luck,

Soph xx
