Trying to conceive

Hi everyone.

I'm posting to ask for some advice or guidance from real people... I think ChatGPT is getting sick of me!

We decided in December that we would like to try for a baby. We were going away for my 30th in March, so wanted to enjoy some time together first.

On April 13th, I had my mirena coil removed. I used the EasyPreMom tests with the app since to track my ovulation. It stayed at a very low baseline for over a month, and started to increase from 14th, but I suddenly had a surge on 17th May.

We BD on 14th May (as at this point, it was my highest reading from baseline), on the morning of 17th May, and also on the evening of 18th May.

I felt a little twinge in my left ovary on the afternoon of 18th May - so feel like the egg could have been released then?

As this is my first time trying, I wanted to ask for some reassurance to see if what I did this cycle was ok. Do I have a genuine chance this cycle?

For context - I'm 30 years old, have always had regular monthly periods before the mirena, have never been pregnant before (due to being on birth control since 15) and have been taking prenatal vitamins (pregnacare) since December.

Any reassurance or advice you could give would be great. It's only technically 1-2 DPO, but I already feel like I'm spiralling. It's difficult in a sense, as I can't control what happens from now, and there is a difficult wait, over analysing everything.

Thank you so much in advance ☺️

It’s hard when you’re anticipating and hoping for a pregnancy because there’s an awful lot of waiting with TTC and early pregnancy. My advice, which may not be of interest to you, is to not monitor your physical symptoms at all and just focus on doing the deed while ovulating and generally keeping well. Early pregnancy feels so different for each person so it’s almost impossible to tell the difference between pregnancy symptoms and pms until like 6 weeks or a missed period. Stress makes it harder to conceive so it’s really worth tracking less, noticing less and hoping for the best. Best of luck!

You usually ovulate approx the next day after you get your peak on an opk. The best days to have sex are in the few days leading up to ovulation, especially the day before as sperm will be waiting in your tubes for the egg to be released (day of ovulation is also good) So It sounds like you have covered your predicted ovulation time well, so yes you are in with a very real chance this cycle, good luck 😀

Have plenty of sex before ovulation.
The pre-natal supplements are good.
Don’t tell him about ov / charts etc…
Just put the fancy knickers on & go!
Don’t test before your period due date.
Best of luck! It’s a game of chance…
