Trying to conceive with irregular cycles and spotting, should I see GP?

Hi! We have been TTC for around 8 months, I previously had the implant which was removed July 2025. My cycles are still super irregular (ranging 26 - 40 days - see attached and currently on CD36 day 4 of light spotting). I'm also spotting for 2-4 days before period on almost every cycle. I'm 32 years old. Do I just "wait it out" until it's been 12 months, or is it worth speaking to a doctor? I know its not been that long but I'm just a bit anxious!

Anxiety is not good when TTC, I struggled as I was TTC and doing final exams. Are you checking your discharge?

Absolutely make an appointment with your GP and request a blood test to have your hormone levels checked.

The guideline is to see your doctor if you haven’t conceived within 12 months however this is not the only issue for you - your cycle is all over the place.

When I came off the pill to conceive my DD I went to see the GP after I hadn’t conceived after 6 months. I was also suffering with irregular cycles and extreme pain during periods. I was late 20’s at the time and the GP took it very seriously. I was booked in immediately for bloods and referred to Gynae. I ended up going private with gynae and having surgery to remove endometriosis and was pregnant within 6 weeks of the surgery.

Good luck x

Your GP may tell you to come back in 4 months depending on their policy, however no harm in asking.

You could check your hormones privately using Hertility or a similar service.

You could also use OPKs to track your ovulation. If you’re having sex every couple of days then it doesn’t make a difference to know when you’re ovulating however it could give you some reassurance.
