I have an absolute rule that I take nothing when pregnant.....

I'm 8 weeks pg and have a temperature of 100.

Which is worse temperature or paracetamol.

I'm pretty sure I should take paracetamol as temp is bad for baby but would you take none, one or two?

Take 2. Perfectly safe, but fever isn't.

snooks · 21/06/2008 21:14

def take 2.

mw told me that paracetomol cannot cross the placenta to the baby.

i'm sure someone will come along who i hope is more medically informed than me!

VeniVidiVickiQV · 21/06/2008 21:14

Paracetamol is perfectly fine to take. Take two, every four hours.

harpomarx · 21/06/2008 21:14

i thought paracetamol when pregnant was pretty safe - I wouldn't have survived excruciating toothache without it. But speak to NHSdirect if you're unsure.

hope you feel better soon.

Hope you feel well soon.

paracetamol is safe in pregnancy, as long as you don't take more than 4g in a day, which is based on four doses of two tablets of 500mg.

I would go and see the doc if you're not better in a day or so though.

Good luck with the pregnancy

Take them I'd say, and I heard that you can also cool down immediately with a tepid bath then standing out of the bath for a few minutes before drying.

Paracetamol is safe in pregnancy but you need to avoid non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID) such as ibuprofen. Also be careful you aren't taking paracetamol plus products as these often contain caffeine and aspirin.

Aspirin (obviously) and ibuprofen have anti-platelet qualities which can lead to bleeding - bad in pregnancy for obv reasons.

If you have a high temperature for more than 24 hours, you should see a GP because infections in early pregnancy can be dangerous - esp if combined with vomiting - you can get dehydrated and overheated very quickly. I was admitted to hospital for rehydration recently for this very reason.

thanks for all the advice

Feeling snotty and sneezy now but no longer hot. (took the paracetamol BTW - I sort of knew it was the right thing to do but worry a lot!)

fynandbean - it is completely normal to be paranoid in pregnancy. You'd be weird if you weren't.

Ha - you wait till you get close to term and you worry about pooing too hard in case it makes you go into labour!

Litterbug · 22/06/2008 22:56

Im like you, I don't take anything in pregnancy, well my previous two... this time round I have had such bad headaches I have taken 2 paracetamol a few times.

Don't feel bad it WON'T harm the baby if you stick to the reccomended dosage!
