High platelets in pregnancy- blood clot risk?

I’m 18 weeks pregnant with first baby. My bloods taken at booking showed high platelets- 415 when normal range is 200-400 whilst pregnant. My midwife did a repeat blood test at my 16 week appt to see if they’d come down. They haven’t they’ve gone up again to 429?

All my other blood results were fine, no low iron etc… It’s puzzling! Urine sample also fine and no infection. Midwife has sent referral to haematology midwife so I guess I’ll have to wait and see. Slightly concerned as my Mum had a Pulmonary Embolism in her 40s, not during pregnancy however.

Has anyone else had a result like this and what happened? Thanks Mumsnetters

I'm only 8 weeks and my booking bloods showed platelets at 470. My midwife isn't concerned and has stated I'm low risk for blood clots and I don't need aspirin but they will monitor with further blood tests later in the pregnancy.

It's good that you've got a referral to haematology so hopefully they'll be able to advise you/do further tests.
