Cramping with twins

Hi I am currently 6 weeks pregnant with twins found yesterday in early scan due to cramping. All was ok with scan and two yolk sacs, fetal poles and heartbeats were seen. I’ve been given progesterone to take twice a day due to a previous loss last year. All day today I’ve had on and off bad cramping and I’m concerned, has anyone else had this with twins? They did say yesterday it was normal but I can’t help but worry. Thank you!

Congratulations. I imagine it’s implantation cramping

Just remember with twins your hormones are sky-high. I was in agony with implantation cramps/lower back pain before I had a positive test, and then I started getting round ligament pain very early on - before I even knew it was twins, in my case!

I also experienced quite intense cramping when I was pregnant with twins, and it lasted longer than six weeks and what’s typically described as implantation symptoms. Like you, I’d had a previous loss, so I was on high alert and understandably anxious.

It’s really reassuring that you’ve heard both heartbeats so hold onto that for now.

A twin pregnancy can naturally feel more worrying, especially with your past experience in mind. Try to be gentle with yourself and take things one day at a time.

Thank you all so much that is really reassuring to hear. When did your symptoms kick in with your pregnancies? I don’t really have many and I thinks that’s another reason why I am worrying as I just assumed twins means symptoms are ramped up from the get go! I have another scan in just under 2 weeks to check everything as they couldn’t see a separating membrane just yet

Sorry for the delay. Like you I was waiting for extreme symptoms and that never really happened. I had worse symptoms with my first who was a single pregnancy.

Easy to say but try and keep yourself busy over the next two weeks until your scan.

If you have any questions in the interim let us know.

I had exactly the same with my DTs, it went on for about 12-16 weeks. I was also on progesterone and oestrogen. It felt like mild to bad period pain and I was constantly terrified I was losing them. My pregnancy symptoms also came and went so I spent an awful lot of money on private reassurance scans!

same for me with my first I was in and out of hospital with sickness and now twins it’s nothing so far it’s so strange! I’m taking things day by day and hoping the scan comes around quickly. I keep seeing things online which triggers my anxiety and I need to stop reading horror stories. It’s been really comforting to read people have had similar to me. Thank you
