Anyone else needed multiple Anti-D injections during pregnancy before 28 weeks?

When I had my initial pregnancy blood test at my first midwife appointment I found out I was rhesus negative (had never heard of it before). At a later appointment we found out baby is rhesus positive, so opposite to me.

Therefore obviously told at 28 weeks I’d receive Anti d and would also need it if had any vaginal bleeding or tummy bumps/trauma.

I work in a Nursery and have been kicked in the tummy which required Anti D, kneed in the tummy which required another dose of anti d and then bumped in the tummy which resulted in a third dose of anti D all before 24 weeks of pregnancy.

I know they are going to advise I have it again at 28 weeks which is fine but I just wanted to see if anyone else has been in similar situation to me?

First time mummy so obviously over think everything!

I’m also rhesus neg, they’ll give you it just to be on the safe side if you’ve had a knock. Speak to them at your next appointment about the amount of doses you’ve has they should be able to advise.

Yes, rhesus negative and placenta previa. I had lots of bleeds so had lots of anti-D from 19 weeks onwards.

I did end up having a chat with a consultant about it as in some trusts one dose of anti-D covers a certain amount of time whereas others tell you to have it after every event irregardless. Was very informed, came up with a strategy I was comfortable with.

Yes. To be honest, it never occured to me to worry about it - perhaps I should have asked more questions! If you are concerned, definitely get them to talk it through with you. Good luck with your babyFlowers

My now 2yo was born completely healthy, over 9lb. I must have had at least 6/7 doses between 19 and 28 weeks.

This is reassuring to read through. I do think the most recent one was a bit extreme to be given it but they always say to treat a bump rather to not in my case it seems. Just worry having it when it wasn’t necessarily required or maybe needed but I guess we trust the medical team!

I had at least three doses before 28 weeks with my first - the first two (three?) times because of unexplained bleeding and the third time because of a knock. I remember being anxious about the frequency with which I needed anti-D.

Baby was perfectly healthy and is now a bright and cheerful 2 year old.

I realise it is hard when you work in a nursery, but have you discussed with work anything that could be done to help to mitigate the risk?

Regarding work I’ve had conversations with them about this. They are now going to put better measures in place to protect me better. It’s tricky as the age I look after range from 9 months to 2 years. Whenever I phone midwife line for advice they always say babies older than 1 aren’t small babies and impacts could still have an affect.

I had it loads with all 3 pregnancies, particularly my first. I had a lot of bleeding throughout which needed anti D each time... I recking I had 4 or 5 lots with the eldest! Theyre all fine 🙂

I’ve had 5 kids and I’m clumsy, I’ve had so many injections it’s unreal.
this pregnancy they told me they now test the baby and I’m hoping they have the same blood group cos those injections are annoying 😅
but perfectly fine and safe to have
