Update on the Urban Pregnancy!!

Had the scan today, they couldn't see anything on the regular ultrasound so they shoved the camera up me fanjo (not the way the sonographer put it) and they could see a tiny sac (less than 4mm!) which suggests there's a pregnancy there and that it's viable so far. But it's very very early days - less than 3 weeks - so hopefully everything will go ok.

It wasn't quite what i was expecting - i thought i was about 7 weeks, and had also convinced myself i had a bump (which must be cake) and was feeling movement (which must be wind) but it was probably just because i knew I was pg.

I have to have blood tests every 3 days now, to check that my hormone levels are doubling and that it is viable - there's still a small chance it could be ectopic.

good luck

StealthPolarBear · 20/06/2008 11:58

Hope everything is OK
lol at your cake bump - I have one too!

belgo · 20/06/2008 14:16

Why is there a chance it could be ectopic? Was the sac in your uterus? But it's good to check your hormone levels anyway to see how well the pregnancy is going.

Before about 5 weeks it can be very hard to see the pregnancy on the ultrasound scan. I hope it all goes well for you, it's difficult when a scan is a bit inconclusive.

bellavita · 20/06/2008 14:32

belgo - I am sure that surburban was taking the mini-pill or something and if you fall pregnant whilst taking it there is a chance it could be ectopic.

belgo · 20/06/2008 15:28

thanks bellavita

EffiePerine · 20/06/2008 15:29

Sounds good so far

soudns good so far.

re: the bump and movement, that will be the kfc

theSuburbanDryad · 21/06/2008 08:43

Misdee - you make a very valid point!!

Yes, because i conceived on the mini pill there's a very small chance it could be ectopic. The obstetrician i saw was hopeful that it was viable but obviously it's still extremely early. I probably wouldn't have told people had I known how early it still was.

Aww - thanks everyone! I feel all weepy now - farkin hormones.

McD - think i'll be due around March/April, but who knows? Perhaps the KFC was preventing them scanning properly?

congratulations on your pregnancy

lackaDAISYcal · 21/06/2008 19:10

fingers crossed for you

SlightlyMadSweet · 21/06/2008 19:32

So were you the one where the cryptic clues were about choppy haircuts & 1/2 a teaspoon of sugar in tea????

If it was you are the first that I have successfully deduced

Less than 3 weeks? I am amazed they could see anything. That would mean that you conceived less than a week ago?? Maybe they meant 3 weeks post conception which would put you at 5weeks on a conventional pregnancy count....

Congrats BTW

theSuburbanDryad · 21/06/2008 21:56

Yes that was me SMS! I've got to go for my blood tests tomorrow again but i don't think there'll be a problem. I cried today because my boss gave me back £7.50 she owes me. WTF??!?!!??!!?!?!?!

Aww, congrats Urban - hope it goes well over the next few weeks. x

fryalot · 21/06/2008 22:01

awwww!!!!!

BlueDragonfly · 21/06/2008 22:04

i didn't even know they could see anything 'younger' than 5 weeks tbh!

theSuburbanDryad · 22/06/2008 13:49

Hi everyone - had more blood tests done today and the hormone levels are up, but not by as much as they would expect. So I have to go tomorrow morning and have another scan

I don't think there's anything wrong. I think the hospital are just being super-efficient, which is nice. But dh is worried and I can't seem to reassure that - whatever happens - it'll be fine.

Squonk - I wouldn't bother knitting anything tbh, my mother has that sewn up

OP posts:
McDreamy · 22/06/2008 13:50

Fingers crossed Urban, will check in tomorrow. You sound remarkably composed for someone with hormones everywhere

Hey Squonk - you can knit for me

JeremyVileSponsoredByPembsLass · 22/06/2008 13:53

Oh, I missed this.
How lovely, fingers crossed it all goes well.

Congratulations!!

elkiedee · 22/06/2008 21:52

Cautious congratulations, hope it goes well

theSuburbanDryad · 23/06/2008 09:42

HI everyone - had an early scan this morning (far too early if you ask me, poor old ds was dropped off to nursery before 8am!) and the sac has doubled in size - it's now 8mm! - and they can see a yolk. The only thing is, they can't see a foetal cord, but i don't know if that's an umbilical cord or the spine. Anyone know?

I've got to go back and have another scan in 10 days' time, but it looks promising. I don't think it's any higher risk than it would usually be, it's just that we found out about it so early, so of course there's the usual risk of pg before 12 weeks. The sac is definitely in the womb though - so it's not ectopic.
