Early Scan ( Possible Ectopic )

So i went for a scan on Thursday 16th April at EPU due to spotting and pain in my shoulder and was told me HCG levels was 9451 there was only a gestational sac showing and then i went 48 hours after and my HCG 14198 and then again 48 hours after that and it was 21544. They have booked me back in tomorrow for another scan which will be 6 days after my last one. they said cause my hormones was 9451 that is high enough that they should of seen more than a gestational sac so if nothing if there tomorrow they have to send me down for key hole to see if it's ectopic.

anyone had anything similar?

So sorry to hear that. I had an ectopic pregnancy that was only spotted after my tube burst. It was very scary and painful, though the surgery went well and I recovered quickly. I went on to conceive again and have another baby.

HCG levels should be doubling regularly. It sounds like your levels are not quite doubling, which is indicative of potential ectopic.

Hi there I had a scan at 5weeks 3 days(ivf pregnancy) due to right sided pain and only gestational sac was seen.HCG was measured at 12,000+ and 48 hrs later had only risen to 15,000+.From reading at the time HGG slows down doubling after 6,000 i think it was.I now have a beautiful 3 year old.

Hey everyone, UPDATE

So I went for my scan today and there is progress — last week there was nothing in the sac, and now there’s a yolk sac.

Last week my gestational sac measured 7.7mm and was empty, and they even mentioned it could be ectopic. Today it’s measuring 10.7mm and there’s now a yolk sac visible.

The doctor said because my hCG levels are high (21,000), the pregnancy “should” be further along than what’s showing on the scan, so it’s not matching up.

She gave me the option of either having a camera procedure or going straight for a D&C, but I refused both. The nurses actually agreed with me they said hCG doesn’t always follow the textbook and everyone is different. They also said the fact there’s been progression is a positive, so they’ve booked me in for another scan in 7 days.

So now I’m just in the waiting stage until next week. Has anyone had anything similar?

Honestly I’m quite annoyed that she was pushing for a D&C today without even waiting to see if things continue to progress.

How many weeks pregnant should you be? It’s very different if you should be just 6 weeks or more like 8 weeks.

my date of my last period was 9th march so i would be 6 weeks

In all honesty just a yolk sac at just over 6 weeks isn’t great, but it also isn’t unheard of. Especially if it’s possible you ovulated later than you thought. It definitely makes sense to wait another week for peace of mind. At least if there’s very little progress next time you’ll know for definite. By 7 weeks in a healthy pregnancy you’d be able to see a heartbeat.
