Ok, am 20 weeks pregnant and the thought of meat (particularily red meat) just makes me want to heave.......I can do fish but all i want is fruit and veg (and chocolate but that's a whole other thread!)

Obviously vegetarians go through pregnancy without eating meat, but should I be taking a supplement????? I am eating chicken 1x a week and fish a few times........

Finally, does an aversion to red meat indicate what sex I am having?! (must be an old wives tale about that!)

Yep went through that stage with this one - it's a boy. But it passes. I'm 34 weeks now and chowing back down on the cow again.

hi dozymare! im vegetarin and havent had a problem through this pg nutriontally or last pg. I do take pregnancy vitamins for babys sake though. Funny you should say this as i cant eat my veg mince. The thought of bolognase/anything with mince in it turns my stomach! Im ok with my other vege stuff like quorn

I was like this last pg (a ds) and not had 20 week scan yet to know if this is a dd or ds so.....

I had this problem when I was pregnant with my DD. Couldn't stomach red meat at all especially if it was in large lumps ie steak, roast meat. As soon as I had her I could tolerate it again. I wouldn't worry about taking a supplement. You can get plenty of iron from green leafy veg etc.

hi dozy

i am completely the same, just the thought of red meat makes me need to heave(i can't face chicken either). all i want is fruit, salad (but not cooked veg), natural yoghurt, cake and chocolate. i don't know what i am having as we chose not to find out at my scan (although i strongly suspect another boy) but i do know that i was completely the opposite when preg with my ds... ate tonnes of meat and could not go near fish for the whole 9 months.

can you face things like nuts, pulses and even dried apricots? quite good for iron/protein/b vits etc

i have to say i am not particularly worried about the lack of meat from a nutrition perspective.

With my other PG's (DS's) I craved red meat and was literally slobbering over the butchers counter! I can't even go in the butchers as even the smell is making me gag...typing this is making me feel icky.....

*zonedout my diet could be your diet!!! Maybe we are having DD's?!!!!

Hi Dozy i went through this too in early pregnancy. Just the thought of a steak or a piece of chicken made me want to puke. It has passed now though. Oh and i'm having a boy
Not really very helpful there - but it did pass for me

finallypregnant · 19/06/2008 22:25

I was exactly the same with chicken. I can now only cook it and eat it when I have not had to chop it up!

waitingtobloom · 20/06/2008 09:54

Am exactly the same. If i try and eat meat anyway I am almost immediately sick - baby - a girl - just does not want it!

Cant remember being like this last time with DS...

PInkyminkyohnooo · 02/07/2008 20:44

HI dozy!

I craved all manner of healty food with DS- mainly oranges, fruit, nuts and seeds and apples. But I was veggie so no meat. I couldn't stand anything spicy at all. DD well I was so sick I didn't crave anything except the odd piece of chocolate but I was eating meat (drs orders). This time I hvae just eaten normally with the occaisional craving for banana milkshake asnd its a girl. Don't know how if at all that fits with your theory.
