This is my pattern of bleeding, if anyone has had something similar please let me know and let me know what the outcome was, because right now not feeling too positive about things, contacts the EPU Wednesday they booked me in for a scan for tuesday 21st April, no cramping that I've noticed.

30th March
• Light pale pink bleeding

2nd April
• Morning: Scan at Royal – measuring 7 weeks, heartbeat seen, no concerns raised about bleeding
• Evening: Attended out-of-hours due to side pain (possible kidney stones mentioned, no follow-up received)

5th–7th April
• Light pale pink bleeding
• Became darker on 7th April

8th April
• Scan – measuring 8 weeks, heartbeat seen, no issues identified

8th–13th April
• On and off light pink bleeding
• Some days with no bleeding at all

14th April (evening)
• Darker red bleeding, noticeable amount
• Passed urine frequently (approx. 6 times within 1 hour)
• Bleeding eased and reduced overnight

15th April (morning)
• Red bleeding noticed after bowel movement
• Currently light pink spotting

17th (morning)
• Bright red blood around 6am, eased off as the day went on
• Bright red blood about 7pm

I had bleeding multiple times in early pregnancy. EPU would only make sure I wasn’t bleeding out, they said there was nothing else to be done in the early weeks. I did end up going for a private scan for reassurance at 9 weeks.

Baby was fine.

Sorry you are going through this. It’s very stressful. I’m sorry to say there’s no clear answer. I’ve had four pregnancies and bled in all of them. I lost one of them at 8 weeks. Some people don’t bleed at all but still lose the pregnancy. Some people bleed huge amounts and everything continues to be fine. Unfortunately as much as you search, you won’t find a solid answer. You need to wait this out and see what happens. I’m so sorry, I know how awful the wait is. For me when I bled, they never had concrete evidence as to why I was, but they always assumed it was irritation from the cervix. Good luck.

PlusPoncho · 17/04/2026 19:59

Just to add, keep taking your notes on what’s happening. I did that too and it was always useful to relay to someone medical when they asked what was going on.

Stirfried20 · 17/04/2026 20:01

I didn’t have dark red bleeding but certinally some pink bleeding with red streaks. It’s an awful time I sympathise as there’s nothing you can do. If it can be normal and once they’ve found a heartbeat that’s very positive. A private scan would be good for reassurance but sadly it can go either way. Hang on in there it’s only a few more weeks until then12 wk scan!

It must be a very unnerving time right now, and I know this is going to sound callus, but what are you expecting EPU to do?

They have confirmed the pregnancy, confirmed it is in the right place, and at 8 weeks was viable. The bleeding may be a sign something is wrong, you could just react to pregnancy in this way. The bleeding is light, so not causing health issues.

Until there is significant pain or uncontrolled bleeding(ie a big change), I think you need to keep track of what is happening, and sit tight.

And, yes, EPU saved my life. I needed that appointment - saw them in the morning, was in emergency surgery that night (about 2am).

Was it alot of blood you lost?
I know bleeding and miscarriages are normal in pregnancy, just doesn't make it any easier

I just wish there was more they can do, I do completely get it, if its miscarriage they cant do anything, if its a hematoma there nothing they can do, just frustrating that I dont know what it is, if the baby is okay. Mind is in over drive.

I would have lots of pink on wiping quite a lot of the time in the first trimesters with streaks of red. In one of my pregnancies I had regular red blood like I was starting a period, this happened throughout the whole pregnancy.

Nursemumma92 · 17/04/2026 20:48

It's so stressful OP totally sympathise. With my first pregnancy, I had bleeding at 6 weeks. Not loads but got a scan the next day and all was fine, my DD1 is nearly 8 now. My second pregnancy all was fine and found out at my 12 week scan that I'd had a missed miscarriage- baby stopped growing at 6 weeks. Then my third pregnancy all was fine until I had loads of bleeding at 9 weeks, passed loads of clots and bright red blood and thought the worst. I had to wait 4 days for a scan due to a bank holiday weekend which was torture but was scanned and all was fine. She is 3 years old now.

What I'm trying to say is there is no way to know what is going on and EPU can't really do any more but the fact there was a heartbeat at 8 weeks is really positive and it is more likely than not that all is ok. Could you book a private scan at 10 weeks or so for some reassurance if it feels too long to wait until 12 week scan?

Sending you lots of positive vibes and hugs!

I know exactly how you feel. I had that same feeling with my first. I lost so much blood, like a heavy period, I didn’t see how I could possibly still be pregnant.

He’s now a monosyllabic 15yo, love him to bits!

I’ve got my fingers crossed for you. The uncertainty is incredibly difficult x

Dontgoforward · 17/04/2026 21:05

It's a horrible limbo you get stuck in with bleeding during early pregnancy OP, and nobody, not even EPU can confirm the exact cause in a lot of cases.
With my eldest I had a lot of bleeding at 8 weeks, like a full blown period and I was convinced I'd lost the baby. A&E told me I was likely miscarrying but I had to wait 2 days for a scan, I was surprised to see a little heartbeat going!
Turns out it was constipation causing the bleeding.
I bled again at 17 weeks and had an emergency scan the same day, there was no cause found.

It's really hard when your actually in that window of waiting to get to scan dates and see everything is actually going okay though.

Superscientist · 18/04/2026 15:20

It's so hard when you have bleeding in early pregnancy. I had two miscarriages and was on a due after loss thread when I had my next pregnancy and there was a woman who had full on gushes of bleeding and didn't lose the pregnancy.
When I lost both of my pregnancies it was sitting on the toilet levels of bleeding as it was pouring out of me. I went through 3 night pads in an afternoon with one of the losses. I presented at a & e as told to do if the bleeding became very heavy. They checked my observations and ran some blood tests. They said they doubted that they would be bad enough to be admitted given my observations so they sent me home saying they would call me if I needed to go back in. I had a scan at the EPU the next day with no signs of pregnancy.

Hi everyone thought i would jump on here with a little update, had a scan this morning, the baby was there moving away and seen the little heartbeat. Feel much more relaxed now, the lady said she couldn't find any reason for the bleeding and it something that could carry on throughout my pregnancy or hopefully disappear as the pregnancy progresses.

Just coming back on here, after my scan Tuesday I still had blood on and off. On friday it did seem like it was getting heavier and did pass clots everytime I went to the toilet, saturday morning continued the same and was feel extremely dizzy so phoned out of hours, was asked to head to EPU, they did my bloods which was normal, did an internal check (said my cervix was closed) sent me home.
Unfortunately early Sunday morning I did misscarry, and just experiencing alot of cramps and blood now.
