Needle into stomach following 12 week scan, please can someone explain

My 40 year old SD had a 12 week scan yesterday. They saw a hole in the baby's heart and went on to do what SD called 'putting a long needle through my stomach into my pancreas'. SD is dyslexic and I don't know whether she got a word wrong and this was the amniocentesis (which she was not expecting to have that day) or whether they really did a test involving her pancreas. Please could someone explain? I can't find anything by Googling about a pancreas test at 12 weeks.

I'm assuming she maybe meant the placenta? Can't think of any way her pancreas would be linked to a hole in the baby's heart.

Could she mean placenta? It could have been a CVS test.

No, there’s no test thst involves a needle into the pancreas. She means placenta or uterus. It’s a Down syndrome test

Should someone be accompanying her to these scans? It sounds like she doesn’t have a clue what’s happening.

It sounds like it would def have been placenta not pancreas. And it would likely have been Chorionic Villus Sampling. Which is only done when there’s a higher chance of a genetic problem. There’s info on the nhs site which may help you understand.

TBH I think she's very upset and garbling things. I think her partner was there and yes it's important she has someone with her this time.
