Confusing Gender Reveal Ultrasound 16weeks

newm0m · 08/04/2026 16:09

I just had my 16weeks ultrasound and the doctor told me I’m having a boy, but the more I look at the ultrasound it’s more confusing. I don’t want to get my hope high as when I started to watch other ultrasound of other people it looks more defined the genitalia and my baby is not.
One red flag that is that when I was telling some questions regarding pregnancy symptoms or others, the doctor straight up told me she has studied for a while and I don’t know if to take that as she doesn’t know about how to answer question of symptoms or what. It made me more mmm unsure of trusting her .????
I’m happy if my baby is either a boy or a girl. Is just going to suck having a gender reveal that will turn up to be the opposite later on …

Was this a full ultrasound or a high street one? If the latter I would wait until you have a hospital one

Jamino · 08/04/2026 16:12

Was this private or NHS?

Bunnybackinherwarren · 08/04/2026 16:18

You've been scammed. That's a girl op.

Peonies12 · 08/04/2026 16:21

No scan is 100% so it could always be different. I don't see why it matters. We did find out at the 20 week scan but it didn't change anything apart from we only thought of one set of names

BotterMon · 08/04/2026 16:26

There's no gender only sex. Gender reveals are tacky. Wait a bit longer and have another scan to be sure if you need to know.

You cannot say that from the image the OP has provided.

OP, did you question the accuracy of what the doctor told you and so that is why they mentioned their training?

There's always one, how about you let people say whichever they prefer and stop being petty. I prefer the word gender over sex so I use that.

Stickytoffeetartt · 08/04/2026 16:37

OP that does look boyish to me as it's stacked.

Nursemumma92 · 08/04/2026 16:46

Assuming you are in the UK, I would wait until you have your 20 week anatomy scan and ask them to tell you then. They tell you that they can never be 100% anyway.

A gender scan at 16 weeks sounds like it was at a private clinic and they are sonographers not doctors but they are not subject to regulation in the same way as NHS is. They wouldn't be qualified to answer questions about pregnancy symptoms etc.

If you are keen to have a gender reveal then I would wait until you've had a further scan if you have doubt that this one was accurate.

Idratherbehavingpickybits · 08/04/2026 17:49

Mum of three girls here. That's a boy.

I don't understand your second point about the doctor saying she's studied for a while. The point was probably that she knows what she's looking at.

You can always get a second opinion at the 20w scan if in the uk

Usernamenotfound1 · 08/04/2026 17:54

I too don’t understand about the dr and pregnancy symptoms.

unless you were telling her that certain symptoms mean a boy, and vice versa? In which case she’d be justified in mentioning she’s studied ultrasounds and trained for years, because although they aren’t 100%, the symptom = sex are old wives tales and have no basis in truth.

certainly no “red flag”. Just a statement that US is infinitely more accurate than guessing sex based on symptoms.

I have a boy and to me that looks like a boy scan. I mean your doctor probably knows what she’s talking about OP.

BewareoftheLambs · 09/04/2026 17:47

Symptoms are not an indicator of the sex of your baby. If the doc said boy, it probably is a boy, although of course mistakes can be made.

That doesn’t make sense. What do you mean that you “prefer” the word gender to sex? Do you think that sex is somehow an impolite word, not to be used in decent society?

They are two different things. It’s not a question of fishknives and paper doilies, with your little finger curled as you raise your cup of tea.

I've no idea what your last sentence is supposed to mean. You sound like you love words, maybe go and get lost in a book for yourself and stop offering unhelpful comments.

She means you can’t use a work that means a different thing because you prefer it as it will lead to confusion. ‘I’ll meet you at the bus stop’ but you don’t mean bus stop because you don’t like the word train so you said bus instead.

If it’s too early to tell, it’s too early to tell. I’d wait a few weeks and then have a private scan.

Credittocress · 09/04/2026 22:04

Hang on until your 20 week scan and they’ll be much more accurate
