Only yolk sac at 6.5 weeks, no pole

only a small yolk sack (5.9) was visible on my scan today. I know my dates and am 6.5. We tracked ovulation. It’s over, isn’t it? I’m forty and this was such a miracle. I told people I had pregnancy imposter syndrome, turns out I was an imposter.

6.5 weeks is still v early and sometimes not visible. I wouldnt say its over for definite no
Are you absolutely certain when you ovulated? Via pdg or bbt?

I’m certain. We only had sex once in February too. 6.5 is the latest I’d be.

I had a scan at the same gestation after a bleed and was told the same thing and warned not to expect good news when I returned in a few days.

He is 12 now.

My opinion is that it could go either way.
Id say to prepare for the worst and hope for the best.
If you implanted slightly later it would explain why fetal pole is not seen and measuring 5w9d
Im 40 also and ive had multiple miscarriages recently and its definitely emotionally challenging. During my last miscarriage, although it didnt end well for me, the consultant had wanted to bring me back a week later because she said some babies take a little more time so a follow up scan would reveal the pregnancy has either progressed or it hasn't.
Was this nhs? If so its always protocol they bring you back for a further scan , has this been arranged? Or was this a private scan? If it was private, contact your local epu and explain and they should offer the scan

I had a scan at 6w 2d and was told I was a week earlier - yolk sac but no fetal pole. By the 12 week scan I was measuring a week later. That’s a two week discrepancy! And I knew exactly when I ovulated (and tested positive at 8DPO so not much room for error!).

I was told that at 6 weeks it’s so tiny that it’s really hard to measure. Days can make a huge difference.

This could go either way but there is hope. This happened to me, I was sure I was 6 weeks 3 days as only had sex on one day etc, but there was a yolk sac and no pole. They told me I was either earlier than I thought by about a week (impossible) or it was an anembryonic pregnancy. Went back two weeks later after an agonising time presuming the worst to be told I was measuring 8+3 (so exactly as I thought I should be) and baby was fine. They said sometimes the fetal pole can hide behind the yolk sac! Hope all goes well for you.

Its shit but unfortunately these things do happen. Just know that theres nothing you could have done that would have changed the outcome so be kind to yourself
