Hello! We’ve been on the Fence for about 2 years about the third baby. Just had a surprise positive test and although over the moon im also totally panicking. Age gap will be 3y from
youngest and 6y from my oldest. Please can people tell me how lovely it is having the third baby as now it’s a reality I’m starting to spiral about whether I can do it ! Thanks so much

It can’t have been that big a surprise as presumably you were having unprotected sex?

Fable2024 · 01/04/2026 19:39

You’ll be fine… nice age gap in my experience

BritishDesiGirl · 01/04/2026 19:44

I've got 2.5 yrs between 1st and 2nd and will have 5yr gap between soon to be here 3rd. It's a nice age gap and definitely one l chose deliberately.

Cat3rpillar7 · 01/04/2026 19:53

Had my third in the last year. It's lovely. Baby is loved by their siblings 😍

I remember the first trimester panic though, thinking what have I done 😅

lochmaree · 01/04/2026 20:06

I'm still a bit panicked and my 3rd is due in two weeks 🤣 also was on the fence for ages. Age gap will be 6y from eldest and nearly 4y from youngest.

Gosh I’ll never understand why people feel the need to comment these kind of unproductive and not kind things!
it took a long time with my other children and this was one time and it happened so I was very surprised.

Our third daughter is a total joy and I’m sure you’ll be happy :) we never wanted three but second daughter born with rare genetic condition changed our minds and whilst it felt terrifying, our baby has brought much happiness to us all. Good luck x

I'm 35 weeks with number 3 and DD1! DS1 is 4.5 and DS2 is only 17 months... I've had a really good pregnancy but definitely got the fear the last week or so about how it's going to be with 3 under 5! But like all babies arrivals, you just get through it, right?! Think I'm just in 3rd trimester hell of being so uncomfortable and heartburny and anxious it's making my head spin. The joys. But I know she will be so loved by her big brothers, and we'll all be fine! Best of luck OP. I love my gap of nearly 3 years between DS1 and DS2, I think your gaps of 3 years and 3 years again sounds lovely x

I have a 5 yo 2 yo and 9 month! Third child is a dream!! It’s been the best thing ever.
they were 4 and 1 when baby arrived. Very small gaps, yours are larger so I think it might be easier. Our middle child found it a little hard but they all love each other so so so much. Thu argue over who can hug and kiss each other the most.

3 kids isn’t as hard as I was expecting (I know I am early days)

Notmeagain24 · 01/04/2026 21:39

Our third baby is the biggest blessing. She is the best thing that happened to all of us and my other children would probably agree - she just brings everyone together. I also remember the first trimester panic! In fact, I've only just come out of panic mode as we found we are having number 4 in summer! Must admit, knowing how much of a gift my third is, the 4th seems less daunting. Congratulations! Xxx

I was really surprised to fall pregnant so quickly with my third as I thought it would take a long time due to my age and as my first had taken a year to conceive. I nearly fell over when I saw the positive result on the pregnancy test especially as we had only had sex once that cycle and I had thought it was outside my fertile window. I was in disbelief for days actually.

Anyway OP I have 3 and I freaked out at the start (what have we done!) and the third child is the absolute light of all of our lives! The cherry on the cake for sure. I am so sorry glad we went for it one last time because she is just a joy and cracks us up every day. It was a wonderful decision!

Hscs91 · 01/04/2026 22:43

Thank you so much everyone!

@Dalmationday your gaps are the same that I'll have between my 3... this gives me positive vibes and a good dose of hope that we'll be ok! 😄

ThunderCatsHooo · 02/04/2026 02:14

I have 3, my eldest 2 were aged 5 and 3.5 when number 3 arrived. I always wanted 3 and my husband wanted 2, but he came around to the idea without much persuasion. Our third child has brought us immeasurable joy, he's simply ace, it was like something was missing still when we only had 2. It was also very easy compared to 2 under 2 with the 2 eldest, he slotted right in and was very chilled. They are all at primary school now and it makes me smile when I see them together (and they are being nice!).

I know even in the hardest or unexpected situations you can still be an amazing mum for example I am one of 5 children my parents had and 2 of my siblings was born way later on.
We all get along and one may have high needs but we all get along and he a very kind boy the point i trying to say is even with a hard or unexpected situation you can still try your best and be a good parent.

ya this is a story @Hscs91 i like to repeat with people.

Sigewif · 02/04/2026 15:06

I can’t speak from the parents’ perspective but your age gap is almost exactly that of me and my siblings - I was almost 7 and my sister almost 4 when our brother was born, we absolutely adored him and loved helping when he was little. We have always loved being a three and are now all in our 20s/30s and the best of friends!
