I am struggling with hyperemesis in second pregnancy. Finding it hard to function, I have antisickness medication but struggling to swallow them without throwing up (last night I threw up after pregnancy vitamin). I feel horrible an I know I should be happy but I’m miserable and got terrible constipation and pains in my side. Any advice? It seems so much harder this time, I am super grateful and lucky that am pregnant and I don’t want to be miserable!

Hi, that sounds horrible. Go back to your GP and ask fir something else. Maybe there is a liquid form you can try.

I dont have HG. But still have morning sickness and l'm due in less than 2 weeks.

Thanks, sorry you’re still suffering, that’s rough. I’m so early on and I know it’s going to get worse which is scaring me. I don’t think I could manage a liquid (they offered me lactulose for the tummy issues but I think it would make me sick). I will try again tonight with the tablet and see if I can keep it down. Is there anything which helped with your sickness?

I have been eating anything that l can stomach, some days salt and vinegar crisps in a crisp sandwich. Just eat whatever you can manage and don't worry about the calories!! Only way l have managed to get through none months.

If you find that things are getting worse, absolutely go back to the GP.

No experience I’m afraid but could you ask your GP if there’s an injectable format of the anti-sickness?

Hi @cantthinkofaname1991I had HG weeks6-18 in both pregnancies. I can absolutely relate to the dreadful, wretched , which is so at odds to the joy that you are “meant” to feel. I also threw up my meds.

First of all - your baby will be fine. My HG babies are teens now, and are fine - they get everything they need as long as you stay hydrated. At my worst it was all I could do to melt ice cubes in my mouth. I also ate nothing but ice lollies for a while.

if you do get dehydrated (dark wee) you really need to go to hospital to be rehydrated on a drip. I was in and out for 8 weeks in both pregnancies. Obviously, the second time we had the added complication of a 2 year olds to look after, but we just had to up his nursery hours. Mil was amazing and came and looked after us.

There are several anti sickness drugs. Go back to your GP and ask to try others. Ț

Are you working? If so, get signed off. You need to rest. The only respite I could find was by sleeping.By law, pregnancy related sickness absence must be recorded separately, and can by be used in disciplinary action against you.

The constipation is awful. If you are not eating much, there’s nothing to keep things moving. I was prescribed Lactulose to help with this.

Have a look at Pregnancy Sickness Support too.

i hope you feel better soon.

Yes go back to your GP about anti sickness meds. Just eat what you can, little and often so you arent getting an empty stomach, and don’t feel guilty your baby will be fine. I found pregnancy vitamin (pregnacare) made me feel more sick and so stopped taking it, instead just took Boots own folic acid + vit d tablet and that helped my sickness a little

I would ask for Xonvea. They won’t automatically offer it as it’s expensive so you might need to push but I found it a game changer after all the other first line medications didn’t work.
