Can a 13 week 5 day scan show baby's sex reliably?

Hi everyone I had my NHS 12 week scan when I was 13 weeks 5 days.
the sonographer wouldn’t attempt to tell the sex of baby.
I paid to have the sex guessed using nub theory (nubologists I think).
they said they’re 85% sure it’s a boy as they could see a penis and scrotum. However I’ve read this isn’t possible as testicles descend around 26 weeks so it’s only a guess using nub theory. I’m not sure there’s a nub in my scan if that’s the case? I’m so confused!!

It can’t be told reliably until at least 15 weeks. I would wait and pay for a private scan with someone who is qualified

Yes. I had scans at 11+3/4 weeks with my 3 teenage sons and all 3 of them confidently said male. This was in a large teaching hospital so I presume its to do with the resolution/sophistication of the scanning machine. But if they could do that easily 18 odd years ago im sure most hospitals can now.

Oh yes I’m sure they could tell early, the sonographer I had refused to tell me as she said it was too early.
however I’m just wondering if anyone thinks that my scan looks like a clear boy or is it part of a leg or something that is pictured

I would say its too early at 13+5, i would base ot as a prediction not a guarantee. I think 16+ weeks is the earliest sex can be confirmed.

Out of interest, why do you want to know the gender so early on? Did you pay for this because you specifically wanted to know? Or was it offered as something extra?

I've never heard of the "nub theory". Looking it up, it just seems to be another way for these private scan businesses to make more money.

I am just curious as I am very impatient and do plan on finding out the gender. 😂
there’s a nub theory group on Facebook where they guess the gender also, when I uploaded the scan pic, I had loads of people comment saying you can clearly see the penis and scrotum and then others saying not possible at this stage.
anyway I’ll be happy no matter what but was just curious if it was possible.

Friend is a midwife who said that even the second main scan very occasionally gets it wrong. I have heard of this from someone who had bought all pink stuff and it was a boy. That is just one of the reasons some people are against having gender reveal parties.

Well at my 12 week scan it was very obvious my son was a boy. However with my daughter I couldn't tell.
