Is it normal to be absolutely shattered tired at 14 weeks?

Hi all,

I’m currently 14 weeks pregnant with my first child and have never felt so tired in my life. It’s almost as if I’ve been sedated at times.

I’m still working full time in a demanding job but work from home two days a week. As soon as 5.30 pm rolls around I have to have a nap.

I feel guilty that my husband is picking up the slack around the house. I feel incapable of doing anything other than sleeping at times.

Im taking vitamins and eat a healthy, pretty balanced diet and will be getting bloods taken in a couple of weeks.

Has anyone else experienced this?

In my experience it was, yes. Got better as the second trimester progressed before returning (but not to the same degree) during the third trimester.

I was unbelievably exhausted during early pregnant both times.

I was with my first but not my second. Ask to get your iron levels tested.

Ooh this brought back memories. Yes, chronic fatigue between 10-18 weeks IIRC.

CongratulationsFlowers

I once or twice actually lay down on the floor of my hallway because walking to the living room was too far.

Yes, I remember leaning my head again my boss' desk partition and telling him I was so tired I could cry....and we really didn't usually have that kind of relationship!

I had three alarms set on my phone - one to wake me up first thing, one to wake me again as the train pulled in to the station because I knew I'd have fallen asleep again, one to wake me just before my stop if I fell asleep on the train home - AND I regularly napped on my lunchbreak at work. It definitely got better in the second trimester.

For the entire pregnancy with my second, and between 12-15 weeks with my first.

Thanks so much for your responses, it’s reassuring to hear others have experienced the same thing. I’ve asked my mum and a couple of work friends and everyone I spoke to seems to say they were fine after the 12 week mark. Really appreciate it, will nap with less unease now!

Ive been struggling since 6 weeks. I can barely stand up with the exhaustion and it brings on dizziness. I dont remember being this tired with my first but I suppose then I wasnt pregnant and running around after a toddler.
Your body's working hard to grow a life.
In my first I was quite tired , just not to this extent but come third trimester it wore off

Glendaruel · 29/03/2026 21:31

With my first, yes! Felt terrible for it but then someone said to me, it's not like you are doing nothing and tired, you're growing a whole new human.

CoodleMoodle · 29/03/2026 21:36

Yes, totally normal IME! I was more tired in the first few weeks of both pregnancies than I was at the end. The last few weeks are tiring for obvious reasons, but up until about 15weeks I could barely keep my eyes open most of the time.

AmandaHoldensLips · 29/03/2026 21:41

Totally normal. I don't know how I managed with commuting and working full time through that period when I desperately wanted to rest.

oviraptor21 · 29/03/2026 21:42

Yes.
