Is it possible for an ultrasound technician to be able to tell the gender at 9 weeks?

I had a private scan today at 9+3. During the scan the technician asked if I was going to find out the gender, I said yes I probably will. She then proceeded to say ‘oh well from what I can see it looks like a boy.’
I actually done an early gender blood test at 7+5 and the results came back as girl, so I was completely caught off guard when she said this!
When I questioned her she then backtracked and said that’s it’s too early to be able to tell. I’m just so confused as to why she would say it looks like a boy! Surely it would be impossible to tell at this point?

At this stage I’d not pin your hopes on either. Girl results can be false because of insufficient fetal DNA in the blood, they are more accurate from 10 weeks on. Ultrasound techs can often guess reasonably well at the 12 week scan but again it’s not an exact science.

No it’s not …. They shouldn’t have said that.
