6w5d scan showing empty sac

According to my LMP I am 6w5d, conceieved using letrozole for ovulation and progesterone pessaries for early support (history of early miscarriages).

I had my private scan at my clinic today and we saw an empty sac, when she rotated at a certain angle we could maybe see something inside the sac but it was faint and either way at my dates she was clear she would expect to see more.

I have been advised to wait a week and go back then but I am just heartbroken, this has been a tough journey for us and I really thought this was our time. I would love to hear from people who had a scan experience like this and either outcome.

I have had no cramping, steady progressing pregnancy tests and mild symptoms.

I had the same a few years ago after my third round of IVF (first two just totally failed). It was horrible. Went for my first scan at 7w2 and it was only an empty sac. Because they were totally sure of my dates due to it being IVF I was referred to the EPU. They sadly still had to wait 2 weeks to check which was annoying as I knew it was pointless. Thankfully i started to miscarry naturally a week later.

I had the same with my first pregnancy, I was 100% sure on dates but they said I must either be earlier than I thought if the or the pregnancy hasn’t progressed, they pretty much prepped me for a miscarriage, went back a week later and everything was fine.

Mine was much later, at a time when scans weren’t so early or frequent. Naturally conceived.
I had to delay the scan due to work so was 20 weeks when it took place.

Empty sac and booked to return for another scan. Pregnancy tests were positive.
Term used at the time was ‘a blighted ovum’.

I miscarried 4 days later, almost as if once I was aware, my body reacted.

Just coming here to give a hand hold, I’m currently going through similar; mild symptoms, steady progression. Has a scan at 6 weeks 2 days to rule out ectopic and they could see a gestational sack and what they ‘think’ is a yolk sack. The visibility for my scan was reduced because of fibroids. She didn’t seem concerned at all but I’ve been booked in for another scan at 8 weeks (next week).

@CertainlyNo @CrappyBottle Thank you for sharing your experiences, it's so painful being in limbo and I hope like yours if it's not viable my body won't 'hang on' for too much longer.

@incognito1991 I really hope this is how this story will go. Thank you for sharing some positivity.

@Kathi154 I hope this week goes quickly for us both ❤

Had my scan first thing this morning and really frustratingly it’s neither good nor bad news. The gestational sac has grown, but due to my fibroids they still can’t see clearly into it. Again they thought they could maybe see a hint of something there from some angles but couldn’t be sure. So another scan booked for Wednesday next week, and another anxious wait for me. My gut feeling isn’t good but trying to stay hopeful for my own sanity.
