Pregnancy test getting lighter at 4w1

Hi all,

Made a previous thread a few days ago. Basically 2 weeks ago yesterday, I had intercourse and condom split (day 14 cycle). I took morning after pill the next morning. I had started taking the combined pill a few days before the intercourse.

Since the weekend I’ve been completely wiped out and exhausted. I decided to take a test to check map had worked. It came back very faint positive. I took a clear blue digital (would have been exactly 4 weeks) which showed 1-2 weeks pregnant.

Unfortunately moving forward with the pregnancy is not possible. I’m a single mum with young dc, money is very tight and I live in a tiny 2 bed flat. This was the first time I had intercourse with this man.

I’ve already had a bpas consultation yesterday and they’re sending out the pills. However I’ve taken another pregnancy test this morning (first wee) and to me it looks fainter than the one I took on Tuesday.

Im wondering if this is normal or could it be a chemical pregnancy/eptopic? For the last few days I’ve had cramps and diarrhoea. Last night, I had a bad cramp only on one side (felt like gas pain) but now the cramping is on both sides. It’s not unbearable and feels like a period cramp. I’ve had no bleeding or spotting.

II’ll attack a photo of the tests taken on Tuesday and the test today. I will be 4w1. In my previous pregnancies, by this time I’ve had a strong second line.

Any advice appreciated.

For comparing tests I would stick to the same brand as you do have slight variances between them. The digital gives the weeks since conception and not your last period so if it said 1-2 weeks that would mean 3-4 weeks from your last period so that seems to be tracking along the correct timeline. I wouldn’t assume it was a chemical with these tests/info and would take the pills when they arrive.

I agree it looks on the lighter side for your dates but you're still early and tests do vary quite a lot in sensitivity. I would repeat the test in a couple of days before you take the pills but unless you've had bleeding by then and then get a clear negative you will probably still need them, sorry. In your shoes I'd be hoping for a chemical as well.

@arionater @Chocolateaddict999 thanks for both of your replies😊

I ended up doing another test just before (2 in the pack) and it came up much darker. Yesterday I was determined to go through with a termination but today I’m feeling incredibly guilty and upset. Doesn’t help Facebook must have been tracking my search history as suddenly my feed is full of pro life posts and pictures of abortions 😔

I know it’s the best thing to do in my situation. I think I’ve came down with a sickness bug as this afternoon I’ve been vomitting and feeling feverish. I don’t know whether to postpone a few days until I’m in a better state of mind so I can think more clearly.

Apologies for the vent! I haven’t told anyone in real life so haven’t been able to talk to anyone.

It's such a very hard situation, I really feel for you. It was an accident and you did the responsible thing with the MAP. You are so early now that you do have time to take a few days to think about it. In an ideal world you would discuss it with the man as well, but I appreciate it is very difficult when you've only just started seeing each other. Presumably he knows that you took the MAP? If you have a temperature and are feeling generally unwell that might be making you more emotional too, everything feels harder to deal with if you have a fever. I think it would be sensible to wait until you feel more yourself.

So sorry you’re feeling this way OP, and as the PP has said you feel more emotional when you’re feeling rubbish anyway. You still have time to make a final decision, I had a miscarriage at 5-6 weeks and it was just tissue you couldn’t see anything that resembled a baby in case that is something you are worried about. I’m sure th posts you are seeing are not pleasant but you know what’s best for you and your little one. There is no shame or guilt in making this decision. We can be here for you virtually but I would hope you have at least 1 person you can tell in real life who can give you support

Thanks both so much for your replies.
The pills arrived today and I just took the first. I have been crying all day and working myself up so much. I ended up taking it without thinking and do feel a bit calmer now.

Realistically I know I couldn’t have continued. I sleep in a box room with only room for my single bed. My youngest is also due surgery. Money is already very tight and would have made it worse for my dc.

Dreading the pessaries tomorrow but hoping it won’t be too bad. Thanks again for your support. Flowers

Edited

I have had a couple of very early losses at this sort of stage and as @Chocolateaddict999 says, though obviously I was sad about it, physically it was really indistinguishable from a heavy period. Good luck getting through it.
