Why does time go sooo slowly in the first trimester

Just a little moan really - I’m nearly 6 weeks pregnant (I think) with my 2nd and I found out super early (before 4 weeks) and I just feel like time is draaaaagging already and I just can’t wait to get to 12 weeks. I already feel pretty crappy - the exhaustion is absolutely unreal, and whilst the nausea hasn’t kicked in properly yet I’m definitely feeling a bit shaky / faint and just generally ‘off’.

I think I’m just struggling cause last time when I felt rubbish I could just sleep and binge watch TV - now I’m trying to look after a very physically active 18 month old and also juggle work. I would thought being busy would help but honestly I just feel like I’m clock watching trying to get through every day.

Any tips on how to make the time go faster, or anyone else in a similar position?! I’m wondering whether to book myself an early scan just to give myself something to look forward to…

Ohhhh I feel this today! I’m 7+3 and in the absolute trenches today with bloating and digestion pain, feeling so generally off. Feels like I’m surviving hour by hour at the moment!

hopingforapeainapod · 24/03/2026 13:13

@Kathi154 it’s so hard isn’t it! Every day feels like a week at the moment… I just can’t wait to be out of the first trimester trenches but I’ve still got so long to go 😫 honestly I would take third trimester, postpartum, newborn sleep deprivation - anything but this!

An early private scan is a good shout. Also counting in half weeks helped me, so I’d say to myself I’ve made it to 6.5 wks nearly 7 etc.

same! Time is glacial at the moment. Am 6+1 today and have a scan at 6+6 because is ivf pregnancy but if it wasn’t I think I would have booked one anyway. Hope everyone’s ok

hopeful4us · 25/03/2026 08:16

First trimester is the absolute worst!

I'm 9+1 and got my booking appointment tomorrow - hoping they'll give me my scan date then as I need something to look forward to. Have managed to avoid the sickness I had last time but utterly shattered (not sure what proportion is pregnancy and what is life with a 1 year old...)

If it's anything like my last pregnancy, it can only go up and at some point I'll miraculously forget how rubbish it is and want another 😂

hopingforapeainapod · 25/03/2026 17:36

@Cakewalk7 @hopeful4us congratulations on your pregnancies!

I unfortunately had my first waves of real nausea today which have not been fun. I still haven’t got my booking appointment or date for scan so I think that’s also making things drag a bit. I remember feeling so crappy between weeks 7-9 last time, but I was lucky in that things really eased off from week 10 and by week 14 I felt great and absolutely loved my second trimester. I’m hoping things are the same this time around, and that my symptoms starting earlier might mean they peak sooner and go sooner?! May be wishful thinking…

@hopingforapeainapod Also had waves of nausea (last night and this afternoon). Really thought I'd bypassed it but hoping it's just because I'm in peak week currently.

Have you told anyone yet? We're planning to tell family next weekend when we are altogether for Easter - that's what I'm looking forward to ATM

Im 6+3 and the days feel like an eternity. Im beginning to feel like im never going to reach the end of the first trimester. Ive had 4 miscarriages so every day feels like hell with the crippling anxiety and i just want past that mark. I had an early scan today due to my previous loses, everything looked ok , measuring 6+1 and flickering heartbeat but I still feel its a hurdle getting to the 12 week mark Without worrying

Straightomyhead · 26/03/2026 06:25

I’m probably incredibly early to join but I am 4+5 and this just seems the slowest week of my life. I had a miscarriage last year so I am trying not to worry but I just want to get to that scan.

Yes I have started worrying incredibly early.

@hopeful4us I’ve told my parents and my best friend - I’m going for an early pregnancy scan next week so if that’s all good then we might tell more family at Easter weekend - will be pretty hard to cover up and obvious when I’m not drinking!

@VioIetMoon @Straightomyhead congratulations on our pregnancies and sorry to hear about your losses - I can only imagine how much extra anxiety that must add. It’s so hard just waiting to get to the 12 week mark - even though I’m feeling pretty crappy I’m definitely finding the mental side of this harder then the physical.

Thank you so much. I have already told my mum as we talk every day so I would never be able to keep it hidden.

Hope you scan all goes well. I also have a two year old and seeing them makes it feel so real. I didn’t have an early scan with him but at 12 weeks suddenly he was a person.

VioIetMoon · 26/03/2026 12:04

@Straightomyhead im trying to resist having any more scans. They only reassure me for a day or so then anxiety kicks in again and im not sure having scans will change the outcome anyway. I only had a scan yesterday as it was a requirement to get progesterone.
I was on progesterone with my successful pregnancy due to it being ivf and its the only one that resulted in a birth so I figured theres no harm trying it

Straightomyhead · 26/03/2026 13:04

@VioIetMoonIve never had an extra scan before, but i am so tempted this time. I didn’t get to see my second as at the 12 week scan when I found out, they didn’t show me.

Although I am looking positive about this but just so ready to be a bit further along.

Oh yeah I can relate! I am 5 weeks after 2nd round of IVF and have very little symptoms 😒 I don’t want to wish nausea or vomiting but would like something to be normal 😂

I have a scan at 6 weeks (a couple of days after Easter) with IVF clinic so this next 10 days is draggggggging!!!
