Hi Mumsnet community. I am getting very confused by the statistics around fertility and age. I think I may be just over 4 weeks’ pregnant and am
very nervous. In part because I keep reading about how many of my eggs would be abnormal at this age! Does anyone know how likely it is at 39 after you have conceived to get to a live birth?

Congratulations on your pregnancy.

I'm similar, I'm 39 and currently 6 weeks. Not necessarily good advice but i talk to chatgpt about this a lot (when ttc and the last couple of weeks). It says 70-80% at 4 weeks will continue to a live birth, meaning most pregnancies at 39 do continue to a live birth. As the weeks progress that number gets higher.

We just have to take it a day at a time and hope this is our one good egg.

@Jellybeancloud Congratulations! That is lovely news. And that’s an interesting stat. A day at a time is good advice but so difficult in practice!

Hi OP, wee bit younger but I conceived my son at 38 and a half and had him at 39, he's absolutely fine.

I believe if the egg is abnormal it'd struggle to fertilise or implant, so the odds are already in your favour. Totally understand your anxiety though, I'm 41 now and trying for a second and definitely feeling less chilled than I was the first time!
