I have heard through my midwife previously that it is not uncommon for more babies to be born on a full moon...and considering today June 18th a full moon is expected just a pre-cautionary measure for all you mums nearing birth to watch out!

Apparantly it's the moon and gravity (pulling) that does it. i have also had friends give birth on a full moon and they have stated that the maternity unit was chocka and that their midwife also told them the full moon phenomenom is true!

Would like your thoughts on this theory.

I am hoping it is true.. acupuncturist who is very into chinese medicine was saying something in it.

at moment only gravitational urge I am feeling is towards the biscuit tin.

cmotdibbler · 18/06/2008 11:49

No idea, but the MW led unit I was booked with had a big lunar calendar in the mws office, so it was something that they were looking at.

jennylindinha · 18/06/2008 11:59

LOL at the gravitational urge to the biscuit tin Poppy! I am so with you there... Have just had to look up the calendar now to see if there is a full moon near my due date (late September) and it's on the 15th so a bit early. God - I hope I don't give birth that early, I'll miss out on the week of rest I planned to have in advance!

zonedout · 18/06/2008 12:13

my ds was born on a full moon... the midwives told me they always have extra staff on around a full moon, so apparently tis true.

on which note, good luck to all those having a full moon baby today!

kittyw3kittens · 18/06/2008 12:18

Agree with what zonedout said.

2 of mine were born around the full moon.

knockedup · 18/06/2008 12:43

God I hope so - this baby's been due since last Saturday and am getting sooo fed with the stubborn little monkey now! Did wake up with some new pains/cramps this morning so here's hoping

ggglimpopo · 18/06/2008 12:44

My ds was born on a full moon in December.

kayjayel · 18/06/2008 13:08

I'm 6 days over so got all excited and then found this

  • oh well, was clutching at straws anyway!
MarsLady · 18/06/2008 13:13

I'll let you know tomorrow lol. I've one client who is now overdue (42+2)and I'm on call for another one.

whomovedmychocolate · 18/06/2008 13:20

That bloody explains it - I've had horrible BHs all morning

Of course I'm not actually due for another three to six weeks but I feel bulgy today

looneytune · 18/06/2008 13:25

Oh god I hope so!!! I'm due Monday and already feel like I'm late! Only concern is that I'm booked for a home birth and if it gets that busy at the hospital, they'll call them to come and help.

sweetkitty · 18/06/2008 13:30

oh looney doesn't seem like 5 minutes ago you were just getting your BFP

I'm due in 3 weeks but wouldn't say no to the baby being born tonight.

Anglepoise · 18/06/2008 22:55

Jennylindinha I'm due on 15th September and checked the other day after hearing this, so I'm expecting to go into labour bang on schedule now - which is a bit annoying as DH wants me to hang on for his dad's birthday (the 20th)!

DKMA · 18/06/2008 23:05

Oooh this reminds me of this time last year!

We had blue moon in June last year (very rare) and I went into labour on that night (last day of June) and had my lo on 1st July.

I was told that it is something to do with tidal pressure!!!

It is very common for waters to break during a full moon!

Spooky but true

knockedup · 18/06/2008 23:13

Well - so far nothing for me today unfortunately Bubs obviously isn't worried by the powers of the moon!

maxbear · 19/06/2008 00:16

Am a midwife, at work at the moment and as I'm on mumsnet I'm obviously not busy!!

looneytune · 19/06/2008 23:21

Well I reckon there IS something in it as I went into labour at 3am (he was born at 2.50pm this afternoon, at home ). The poor midwives had been to 3 other homebirths already by the time they got to me and we getting called to others they couldn't attend. They were commenting on how mad it was they were so busy and then I mentioned the full moon

Expectant · 20/06/2008 06:58

Am due 18 August so just googled for full moon dates now expecting to go into labour 2 days early on 16!

laura032004 · 20/06/2008 07:00

I had DS2 on a full moon. They needed to induce me urgently as overdue, prolonged ROM and GpB Strep, but couldn't as everyone was having babies everywhere. They had normal births being delivered in the op theatre etc. They started my induction the next day, and by the time he eventually came, nearly 48 hrs later, it had all calmed down thankfully.

zonedout · 20/06/2008 09:24

Congratulations on your full moon baby boy Looneytune!!!! Hope all is well

looneytune · 20/06/2008 21:42

Funny isn't it, I was very lucky to get my home birth considering!

Thanks zonedout, all is great thanks

spendalittlelivealot · 20/06/2008 23:16

littleboyblue · 20/06/2008 23:22

I read something about full moon having an affect on menstrual cycle and birth.

Sketchi · 21/06/2008 20:15

Congratulations on the birth of your beautiful baby Looneytune...!
