5 weeks pregnant with brown spotting after previous miscarriage, seeking reassurance

Please I need some support or advice or something.
I miscarried previously and I am now 5 weeks pregnant. When I miscarried before I was 6 weeks 3 days but measured 5 weeks.
I had dark brown discharge to start and then it quickly turned to red blood.
I've wiped twice just in the last 45 mins and this is what was on the tissue. I've tried to guard my heart this time but I'm so scared and upset

Oh love here to hold your hand, I know how scary this time can be. Been through it on both sides, and for what it's worth got a DD turning 15 next month to show for it. Not here to minimise just wanted to say there is light at the end of the tunnel. Be kind to yourself, take it easy, distract yourself if you can 💐

Thank you, I already have a 5 years old and then miscarried last month and fell pregnant straight away. It isn't as dark as when it happened last time but I'm just so desperate to cling on x

Just to reassure you, I have had 3 successful pregnancies and each time I also had this. But I’ve had multiple miscarriages and so I know how scary this is.

Cars1101 · 21/03/2026 17:15

Thank you! Did you have this type of discharge? With your successful pregnancies?

Yes, I did have it with my successful pregnancies. I think my was a little heavier at times. I remember being so scared each time I went to the loo.

Cars1101 · 21/03/2026 17:25

Thank you and I presume you had it with your losses? But was it dark brown? When I miscarried the first time, I got dark brown blood straight away. I feel like this is mucus discharge. I'm just trying to stay positive x

It was a dark brown discharge when I had my successful pregnancies.
With my miscarriages it was immediately obvious that it was blood and there was much more of it than yours.
yours really looks the same as the brown discharge I had with my three successful pregnancies.

Ok thank you. I'm just trying to remain calm, I haven't had anymore for about 3 hours so preying it wasn't anything bad

Hi @Cars1101 I’m sorry for your previous loss. Ive had it go both ways so I understand your worry’s and anxiety, if your bleeding has stopped hopefully will be fine.

I’ve had 2 miscarriages, first one I bleed naturally at 6 weeks light constant spotting went on for few days then stopped then started few days later again heavy and the 2nd was a missed miscarriage.

But last June I found out I was pregnant for a 3rd time I was terrified. I had bleeding at 6 weeks with that pregnancy too which was brownish/pink mucus few times I wiped that was it and the next day had a red clot! I was already booked in for an early EPU scan that day , I was expecting the worst but there was a little heartbeat and that pregnancy was successful and my little one is healthy little 5 week old. That was the only bleeding I had with that successful pregnancy.

Wishing you lots of luck, fingers crossed no more bleeding x

Hi @Cars1101
Sorry you are experiencing such an anxious time. Pregnancy after loss is absolutely insane!

I have had this type of discharge go both ways. Like you I had two miscarriages at 5 and 6ish weeks that started with brown blood, had nothing for quite a few hours and then woke overnight to red blood.

However around the 5w6d mark til 6d1w I also had brown discharge and some light red spotting on and off for the 3 days on my current pregnancy. It never progressed to anything more and the EPU put it down to hormonal shift.

@Cars1101 how are you doing today, I hope things are well with you x
