39+ 5 today. Was woken up at 2 by what felt like a strongish period cramp shortly followed by an urgent toilet trip. Pains have come fairly regular ish ever since, around every 7-9 mins lasting around a minute.

I can’t decide whether to try and sleep as I do feel tired and if this is it I don’t want to run out of steam. Or do I get up and try and encourage things to continue and progress. Pain feels worse when laying down.

ahhhhh the excitemen! If this ends up being a long prodromal early stage labour I won’t be saying that I know 😂

I’d walk around if it helps. Have you phoned the hospital or midwife for advice? Certainly is exciting.

Orangelover · 17/03/2026 04:22

Well I couldn’t sleep anyway so I’ve left DH in bed, come downstairs and lit some candles as I don’t want to turn on the lights and just gonna do my own thing and see what happens.

As per the advice I’ve had the birthing unit/labour ward don’t really seem interested in you ringing until contractions are 5 mins apart so we’ll see if they get closer 🤞🏻

How exciting. Hope things progress really well for you.

24Dogcuddler · 17/03/2026 04:28

Good you are staying calm. With our second my DH was munching away on cereal in the early hours. I felt like pouring it over his head 😂. Think he was expecting a long labour bless him.
One of you may as well rest.

catin8oot5 · 17/03/2026 04:52

Sleep and sleep as much as you can OP!

mellongoose · 17/03/2026 05:28

You’re up now, but I would have recommended sleep if you can. Certainly rest for a bit longer.

I did this one night and thought I was on my way but it all went away and the next day was normal. A bit of a show. Went for a lovely long walk.

It started exactly the same way the following night and she was born the next day.

Good luck OP. Keep calm, active when things get going. Hope all goes well.

Sleep if you can! Good luck

Update to this incase anyone ever comes across this thread on their own search. Labour continued and baby born pretty swiftly on that afternoon. Other than the slightly long pushing stage and some stitches it couldn’t have gone better (might just be the oxytocin talking…).
