27 weeks bulging membranes

Currently in the hospital with suspected bulging membranes and I’m only 27 weeks, I’m absolutely terrified. They need to do a cervical length scan but it can’t be done till tomorrow morning now and I can’t stop worrying 😭 need a virtual hug and some advice if anyone else has experienced this 😔

Also, if anyone is experiencing period type pains and unsure, this is your cue to please go get it checked!

Sending you love + grit + keeping fingers firmly crossed for you.

(If you do end up in labour - my daughter has a pair of 27 week twins in her gymnastics class - and they’re amazing!)

@JupiterDaze this site gives a bit more information, just to keep you informed 🌻

@Smugbadger thank you that’s very reassuring to hear!

@Arregaithel thanks for this ❤️

They’re considering transferring me to a different hospital tonight, this is all so overwhelming. I’m all alone my husband is at home with our 2 other children 😭

How’s it going @JupiterDaze? Can I ask what your symptoms were?

Sorry to read what you’re going through @JupiterDaze, I hope they’ve managed to keep baby in a bit longer. Are you far into your 27th week? 28 weeks is a huge milestone in the world of cervical insufficiency and you’re almost there. Have you been given steroids? The hospital move is hopefully to get the baby born where the care will be the best possible for them. Will be thinking of you.

They can do amazing things. I know two people born premature. My dad was born at 28 weeks in the early 60s and was just 2lb3oz which is amazing considering what would have had available and a friend's son was born at 29 weeks after her waters went nearly 7 weeks earlier! She spent that time on bed rest and had magnesium and steroids to help baby arrived in the best position. Both spent the first 8 weeks off life in hospital but have thrived since.

It's frightening when you have preterm labour scares, I had two in my last pregnancy when contractions started at 32 weeks. I was admitted in pregnancy for other reasons and were on bays with others in threatened preterm labour. They are so cautious and make sure you are in the hospital that is in the best position to give you and your baby the best care. Ask for monitoring as much as you need. Try to rest and I hope for the best for you both

Keeping everything crossed for you. My consultant told me that 28 weeks is a great gestation to reach in terms of pre-term birth and you are almost there.
I work with two women who had babies at thirty weeks ( one being twins) and they are all absolutely fine and at school now.

Thank you everyone ❤️ luckily it was a false alarm! They did another speculum and swab to check if I was at risk of going into labour soon, and they saw my cervix closed and the swab was negative! I had a cervical length scan too and no signs of premature labour.

I’m so happy he’s not coming any time soon! I have no idea what they initially saw during the first speculum to think the membranes were bulging… but thank goodness all fine!

However we now have another hurdle to overcome as he appears to be becoming growth restricted and I have another scan in 2 weeks’ time. His femur length is around 3rd centile but everything else is measuring normally, abdominal circumference on the low-ish side but still normal. They said if I make it to 37 weeks they would want to deliver then. This is my third baby and my first 2 were delivered at 37 weeks too both due to complications and risk factors. Hopefully we can make it to 37 weeks 🤞🏼

Ah that’s great to read. Sounds like they’re on it with growth restriction measurements and will make sure he’s safe to stay in as long as possible. Really glad to read your update. What a scary time that must have been.

I had contractions from 32 weeks and was assessed at 34 and 35 weeks for preterm labour. I made it to 36+6 before being called in for induction. Baby arrived at 37+1. He was predicted to be about 5lb12 based on growth scans but was 6lb12!
