I went for a private gender scan yesterday and the sonographer said they had to rescan us and once they did they sent detials over to clinician at the hospital with the notes :

Left fetus kidney is replaced by a multi cystic mass

She said they would be in contact with us again to be seen at the hospital but didnt really say much else. ( she described as fluid sacs)

Has anyone had this before and what was the outcome please been worrying myself sick and unfortunately googled while we were waiting for rescan which always tells you the worst case scenario.

Thank you in advance

I think you just need to get on to the NHS scan and see what they say. Private scanners are not required to have any qualifications and may get things wrong.but assuming it is right, people can live full lives with only one kidney, so it's at least a better organ for this to happen to.

I had a colleague who had a similar thing near the baby's heart and her child is living life to the full now. She did need to quit work as it was impossible to find a nursery, but heart issues are more complex than kidney ones.

I had a friend whose daughter had only one healthy kidney on a scan. The other was problematic. The baby was on antibiotics as soon as she was born, and eventually the kidney was removed when she was a bit bigger. She's now a healthy 11 year old with one kidney.
