Hi ladies. I am having a meltdown here. Have been trying for so long to get pregnant and got a positive test on the weekend (very early just about 4 weeks). Went to a party and now have a sickness virus. Been told that around 8 other adults have it too. Incredibly worried this will have a negative impact on developing embryo and I can’t stop worrying. Am going to call the doctor soon. Did anyone else go through anything similar?

I have only had 2 stomach bugs in my adult life. Both when 6 weeks pregnant. I felt horrendous both times. They're now 32 and 30. Just keep trying to get fluids into you. Maybe some rehydration sachets.
Hope you feel better soon.

I haven't been through similar but I really don't think it will have a negative impact. You and your baby don't even have a placenta yet so the baby is implanted in your uterus but otherwise developing all by itself. Even when you are feeding your baby through the placenta a stomach bug is still not a concern (it just might feel particularly exhausting).

I'm sorry your feeling rough. If there's any morning sickness involved too you must be feeling really awful. Take care of yourself by staying well hydrated and keeping up your electrolytes and I hope you recover swiftly!

Huge congratulations on your pregnancy! I hope you have a safe and enjoyable time and a gorgeous squishy babe to meet at the end of it all!

Had this with first pregnancy at 9 weeks. Had a lot of fluids and Dioralyte as well as anything I could tolerate food wise, which was just bread and plain chicken. Passed within a week and baby was not affected.

24 weeks pregnant and have been constantly sick the whole time as it’s my daughters first winter at nursery. Stomach bug, colds, tonsillitis etc. The doc said not to worry, it wouldn’t affect the baby and just to rest and stay hydrated!

You will be fine baby very tiny and well protected🥰 The only important thing is to keep your temperature normal - stomach bugs can cause fevers. Important to keep fevers under control in the first trimester! Take Paracetamol if it goes up. Sipping on fluids/oral rehydration solution (once safe in pregnancy) can help keep you cool too, and are good in general with stomach bugs. Wear light layers and use cool packs if you do continuously spike temps. Feel better soon!

The last two times I have had food poisoning were both during pregnancy, the first around 4 weeks and the second around 3 months (different pregnancies). No problems either time. There are plenty of mothers who can't keep anything down for the whole first trimester, plus a tummy bug isn't harmful on its own. Lots of good advice here about staying hydrated and nourished etc., but you will be fine!

I had Covid with my first when I was 6 weeks pregnant. She’s currently snoring her little head off upstairs, all was well x

I had a nasty skin infection at 4 weeks and a vomiting bug at about 9 weeks. I remember being so anxious, especially with the infection so early on. Baby was absolutely fine - and is now a happy, healthy, chatty toddler. I hope all goes well for you and that you feel better soon!

So sorry to hear that. Take care of yourself. It is absolutely devastating.
