31 week growth scan - baby dropped down to 14th centile

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone could relate. I am currently just over 31 weeks pregnant with my second baby and having regular growth scans.

My first baby I also had regular growth scans and she was always measuring fairly high on the centile chart and was born at 39 weeks weighing 8lb 11oz.

I went to my 31 week growth scan yesterday and baby had dropped from the 42nd centile (28 week scan) to 14th centile. Blood flow and fluid all examined to be normal. I’ve got to go back in 2 weeks for a rescan. When I look at the notes from the scan the head circumference, femur length and abdominal circumference are all measuring ahead of 31 weeks but I think there has not been a big enough growth of the abdominal circumference in the 3 weeks between scans. They did struggle to get an accurate abdominal circumference due to baby’s lie so said this could cause an inaccurate reading. I’m hoping this is just the case but it’s still got me worrying quite a bit as this is quite a difference from my first pregnancy.

Just wondering if anyone had something similar happen or have any reassuring words.

Thanks in advance to anyone who replies x

Hi OP, I was also under consultant care & regular growth scans due to my low BMI pre-pregnancy. DD was 'bang average' at the 20-week scan but had dropped to 25th percentile at the stage you're now at. At my 36-week scan the couldn't get head circumference (as she was already engaged) & femur was spot on so it was all on the abdominal growth like you.

Neither my husband and I were big babies so didn't really surprise me and doctors weren't overly concerned. They did push for an induction around my due date but I went into spontaneous labour at 39+2.

My daughter was 6lb2 at birth, she's now 11 months and has tracked along the 9th percentile ever since she was born. Some babies are just dinky!!
