Does anyone have any tips on how to relieve upper back pain during pregnancy, I can only find things for lower back pain online but my pain is between my shoulders more on the left side. It’s waking me in the night around 5/6 times and can be a quick sharp pain or constant. I know I can take paracetamol but it doesn’t do much for me.
I’d ask my midwife but I’m having to wait 2 weeks for an appointment.

has anyone had this before and how did you cope with it?

Hello.

I get this and its caused by subluxations (partial dislocation) in my back due to me being hypermobile. Pregnancy makes it much worse as you release hormones that make your ligaments relax more and night time is the worst because you also relax when you sleep.

I find heat and gentle movement helps. Its made much worse by using a computer/mouse so you might need to think about your posture if you're doing desk work. You might need less pillows when sleeping as well.

Your GP surgery should have a physio who will be able to test your beighton score too see if you are hypermobile and advise on how to manage it.
