I had my scan today and saw gestational sac, fetal pole and yolk Sac but no heartbeat.

We have had ivf thus the early scan.

Anyone had a similar experience and saw a heartbeat after?

We will have another scan in one week.

I had a scan at around that point (not ivf, but due to spotting) and they could see the same. Scanned again a week later and there was a heartbeat. Of course because mine was a natural conception the dating isn’t quite as accurate , but v similar. When are they next scanning you ?

Renisenb · 26/02/2026 18:15

My IVF clinic wouldn’t do the first scan until 7w due to risk of seeing no heartbeat so I assume that’s not unusual xx

ImpatientlyWaitingForSummer · 26/02/2026 18:28

I had a six week scan with my second and they booked me in for the following week as they said it was too early to see the heartbeat. Came through clearly at the second scan though

I have a scan in one weeks time. It is going to be a long wait.

Were you 6 weeks exactly?

It's so unnerving. I feel so down. xx

I went in early thinking I was 7 weeks for a private scan as they wouldn't do one sooner due to the variability in whether they get a heart beat or not.

They said I was 5 weeks 6 days but there was heart beat present.

Had a scan exactly one week later with the NHS and was told I was 8 weeks 6days. Everything was fine but due to previous losses was in every 2 weeks for a scan.

So I must have been around 7 weeks originally. But a slight off measurement changes dates drastically. I think it's more typical to see a heart beat at 7 wks plus.

I wouldn't worry yet, it seems like what should be present is.

I totally get that, it’s the longest part of the pregnancy for sure!
for now you are pregnant, there’s a little baby growing in there, take it easy but do things you enjoy to keep your mind occupied.
at the end of each day remind yourself it’s one day closer xx

Yes bang on, with my first I had been able to see the heartbeat at six weeks but it turns out in a lot of cases it’s just too early as I realised the second time round. Sending you lots of luck and really hoping everything goes well for you

ivf pregnancy:
5+5 no hb
6+5 hb

It could be there but as yet not visible due to scanning limitations, like being on the cusp of visibility and tilted uterus so hard to image. Best of luck with your next scan.

Thank you. I am praying for the best. We are having nhs scan so assume techonology is good! Doctor said baby is so small she could not see. 3mm.

OP posts:
aLogLady · 28/02/2026 10:37

i was 1.2mm at 5+5 and 2.6mm at 6+5.
first was TV second TA (hence the apparent (frightening!) lack of growth. On the tv one she looked for agggges but couldn’t confirm she’d seen what she needed to. She’d tried abdominal before tv and couldn’t even see the yolk sac. The next scan she saw everything clearly straight away, and that was abdominal. So it had become significantly more echogenic (and therefore substantial) over that week. These were both nhs EPAS. I’d def trust theirs over high street types! The imagine quality difference is dramatic.

strawberryandtomato · 28/02/2026 21:01

If a fetal pole was seen, that’s great news. I went in at 6+1 and only the pole. Week later. Heartbeat. Then my 12 week scan pushed me forward 5 days but I don’t believe it because that means no heartbeat was seen at almost 7 weeks

Unsure21 · 01/03/2026 11:27

I started bleeding this morning ladies. Fresh red blood. Will monitor over the next 24 hours. I am realistic but there is always a smitherin of hope :(

My scan was booked for next Thursday anyway to see baby's hb. My fertility cons said to monitor over the next 24 hours and if bleeding heavy or severe cramping then go to A & E. I am home on the sofa in my warm blanket. Had a spoonful of nutella and a cup of tea I have not had since I found out I was pregnant. So sad right now.

Edited

You’re doing the right thing, I get it’s so hard.
much better home than a+e, depending on the hospital sometimes they don’t even scan you there so it’s only worth going in with bad symptoms that need some kind of medical care xx

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 01/03/2026 21:55

Aw I'm so sorry. What a sad update.
I also agree that staying at home is the best thing to do unless you're bleeding very heavily or in extreme pain.
A & E is a grim place at the best of times.
