Benefit confusion

Hi- I am six months pregnant and struggling to navigate the benefits system. Some calculation checkers say I can get UC some not! I never get the some answers out of it twice! I am not working atm and when the baby is born will be a single parent (also a new development!)
was just wondering if anyone had had a similar experience with benefits and how they managed it? Thanks 😊

It depends entirely on your circumstances, how much you have in savings, what pay you will be entitled to on maternity (MA or SMP), household income, rent vs mortgage… too many variables to give any advice.

The only way your going to know is either just applying and seeing the outcome or getting some actual benefit advise rather than just using the calculators.

When did you last work, OP?

Coffee42 · 26/02/2026 15:31

Last worked Dec 2024. Was going to do self-employed but didn’t happen. What does OP mean please!

Yes I tried CAB but couldn’t get through. I also tried Gingerbread and a charity called “turn to us” but non of them offer individual advise anymore. Do you know of any where else I could try? Thanks

Call and ask? Or as PP stated - apply and see what happens.

If you’re on facebook there is a great group called universal credit survival if you make a post on there with all your info the admins are really good at working out entitlement etc
