Morning sickness getting worse as second trimester starts?

Surely this isn't right?

Up until now, I've felt pretty queasy and bilious most of the time but have rarely been sick. Now at gone 13 weeks I seem to be getting steadily worse and actually throwing up most meals.

Scans have all showed a healthy baby measuring well for dates - so I'm more concerned about me than something being wrong with the baby. I don't think it's a tummy bug as the nasty taste in my mouth seems to have got stronger and it comes and goes in waves especially when I'm tired or hungry.

Last time around I hardly had any morning sickness so this is all new to me.

Is this a peak before it gets better? Or will I be one of those unfortunate people who is still throwing up at 39 weeks?

Any experiences welcome.

Thanks Lavitabellisima congrats on your double excitement too, have heard sickness can be worse with too so glad to hear it's easing a little.

Just over 12 weeks preg here...felt reasonably human last weekend and started to consider going back to work but then bam, came back with a vengance and have been laid up most of the week and am in bed now

I felt better around 12 weeks with DS but with this one, not so...am hoping its just the placenta taking over hormone production and I will wake up one day and feel lovely but 'aint happened yet!

Hmm
Tinwe · 19/09/2010 20:03

Ah, that's something I wanted to ask PussinJimmyChoos... have you had much time off work and if so, at what point did you decide not to go in? Did you go to the docs? I'm feeling very rough and keen to miss a day or two, especially when I can't sleep all night, but hear all these stories of brave women trugging on and feel a bit guilty about it. One woman at work told me the other day she was sick during her driving test and still passed and carried on!

PussinJimmyChoos · 19/09/2010 20:08

I have been off work for nearly 6 weeks now -I kid you not. No way I could work...I tried one day feeling sick and it was awful...being in front of the computer screen made me feel worse (mnet doesn't count as its not all day Grin), I was constantly snacking to try and feel reasonable, everyone seemed to smell - food, garlic breath etc and I was trying really hard not to gag. Can remember sitting in the canteen eating chips and beans in the hope of settling my stomach for the afternoon - it was evil

Have spent most of my time in bed and DS had to go to nursery full time instead of 3 days a week before he started school last week. DH is now doing the school drop off/pick up

I have felt and still feel thoroughly useless! Sad

Tinwe · 19/09/2010 20:20

Me too (feeling useless)! My DP is doing lots more than usual and it's getting me down as I'm normally fussing around and nest building! I love bargain hunting and baking etc. I feel really guilty and not like myself at all.

I'm really struggling though work, gipping in the car between visits (I work in mental health and see people in their own homes) and either forcing myself to eat and gagging at lunch time or trying to stay awake between meetings. I can't concentrate bacuse I'm just clock watching. My work colleagues know because I told my boss and he put pressure on me to tell other people so that they would know why I can't do some jobs etc but I'm sick of moaning to them. I feel even worse because it's just nausea not actual vomiting. I live for the weekend and then don't really enjoy it 'cos I'm feeling too rough to go out anywhere.

Sorry, big moan. Thanks for listening/reading!

Go to your GP! I finally gave up struggling last week when my sickness got massively worse at 16 weeks. GP prescribed me cyclizine, which is safe to take in pregnancy, and I have not been sick since and rarely feel sick. You don't have to feel like this.

Tinwe · 19/09/2010 21:23

Thanks Muser didn't think there was much you could take that was safe

janedoe25 · 20/09/2010 07:19

Hatty i could have wrote that post myself! When i hit the 12 wk mark i was sick as a dog waking up 3 or 4 times a night to be sick, sick during the day etc. It wasn't pretty! My midwife said it was just a hormone surge, by 16 weeks i have felt fine! Hope u feel better soon x

Sugarmuppet · 20/09/2010 07:28

Have a go at accupuncture! After 26 weeks of sickness, hospital stays and generally feeling like shit I had a session of accupuncture and never looked back!

Rocklover · 20/09/2010 09:23

Hi,

I'm 21+3 and my nausea eased around the 13/14 week mark, but then came back with avengence. I am not sick (although have come close when I nearly fainted last week), but have horrific nausea almost all day, it's worst first thing in the morning and just before lunch.

I am pretty sure that my nausea feels worse than it is because I get so anxious about it as I have to do the school run etc because my dp doesn't drive. I am lucky enough not to be working, but I also dread the weekends as I don't want to go anywhere. Although this weekend I took dd and dp to Dartmoor On Saturday and sent them off for a walk whilst I spent the whole time feeling sick and panicking sitting in the car :(.

I have been given a very small amount of Cyclizine by the dr (which worked wonders in my last pregnancy) but I feel I can't take the 3 a day I need because I hardly have any tablets and I'm not sure if they will re-prescribe them.

It's bloody miserable feeling this crap all the time and I feel like I am letting dp and dd down because I barely go out and don't do a huge amount of housework. For breakfast this morning I have had a glass of coke and 2 chocolate digestives as it is all I fancied; absolutely rubbish!

Tinwe · 20/09/2010 09:43

Oh Rocklover much much sympathy! Sounds like you need to speak to your doctor again if there's some medication that's working for you

Fi1973 · 03/11/2010 12:57

Anyone else have this sickness all the bleedin' way through? It seems rare but does happen. I also have v low BP which means I'm so dizzy I have to spend most days lying down. So fed up.
It's the second and just like the first, but worse!

maisiedais · 08/04/2023 08:16

Reading these messages make me feel less alone! I've been sick everyday through either the night/morning/mid morning from 6 weeks.. I'm now 15 weeks and it seems to have got worst. If someone tells me 'it should go soon' or 'have you tried ginger?' I think I'll scream.. so fed up I feel like trimester 2 has brought me more nausea, vomiting and tiredness! And that's without mentioned the painful trapped wind. It feels good to moan!!
