Progesterone - twin pregnancy

Hi everyone,

im currently 6 weeks 6 days pregnant with fraternal twins. I found out 5 days ago it’s twins at my NHS reassurance scan. Last year since starting TTC I had an early loss followed by a MMC, heart stopped just after 7 weeks and I didn’t find out until a scan a few weeks later. Due to previous losses I’ve been given progesterone which i started Thursday evening, I take this twice a day. I can’t relax and I’m constantly worried but especially now since Thursday my naseua has gone. I remember feeling sick Thursday morning and it’s not come back since then. I’d say a week before hand I had it every day it would come and go in waves. I also had a lot of physical symptoms I could feel ligaments stretching, pulling, back pain, mild cramping etc every day too and my midwife said this is quite common in twin pregnancies as things are growing faster. Now those feelings having vanished over the last 2 days.

I am honestly sick with worry I don’t know if it’s enough to call my midwife about I have no spotting no pain but the lack of symptoms has really scared me. Does anyone have experience on progesterone, can it quiet symptoms? Also pregnancy is it normal for symptoms to come and go like this.

i think I’m just traumatised from my MMC I remember my naseua stopped round about the point my MMC happened.

I can’t help with the progesterone side of it but my pregnancy symptoms seemed to stop to the point where I was teary in the waiting room, convinced at my 12 week scan they were going to say that I had had a MMC. That was the day we found out we were expecting twins who are now 4 months old.

If you feel like you need the reassurance you could go for a private scan. Do you have any more NHS scans booked in? I’m not sure how they work as I’ve only ever started with a 12 week one. I’m sure your midwife will be happy to reassure you if you send her a quick message.

No experience with progesterone, but yes - my symptoms came and went with a twin pregnancy. It was my second pregnancy, and I’d had hypermeresis with my first - so nausea coming and going made me assume the worst, but it was fine (the twins are 6 now!)

Thank you for sharing this, my next NHS scan is when I’m 9 weeks but I have booked a private scan in for this Saturday. Hopefully that gives me some relief, then it will be back to panic no doubt until the 9 weeks scan 😂
