Spotting early pregnancy and cyclogest progesterone?

Good morning. I am just over 6 weeks pregnant via IVF and am taking cyclogest progesterone pessaries. About 7 days after the embryo transfer, I had some bright red spotting and irritation, then 2 positive pregnancy tests on day 14 post transfer.

Since the first spotting my dosage has been increased from 2 to 3 every day, and every so often I get some brown spotting - maybe every 5-7 days or so. I have an early scan next week when I will be 7+2, but I just wondered if anyone else has experienced the same or similar? It's hardly anything, and probably more noticeable because when the pessaries melt they leave a thick white residue so it's easier to see the brown streaks.

It's my second pregnancy via IVF (age related!) but I didn't have any spotting last time and now have a very healthy toddler who will clearly have a career in demolition.

Any advice or shared experiences would be gratefully received as it is very hard not to worry each time it happens.

Thank you!

Not an IVF pregnancy but I did have spotting in my current pregnancy that the consultant put down to irritation from the pessaries. I had no spotting in my previous pregnancy where I also used pessaries. I tried to switch usage and more often than not inserted them rectally instead and had no further issues.

The good thing is the blood is brown which would indicate old blood.

Did you have intercourse within the 24 hr preceeding the spotting as apparently this can also irritate.

I have this. 7 weeks pregnant and also ivf. I went to the epu and they did an examination. Turns out I have a cervical erosion which is causing the bleeding but it won't harm the pregnancy. I would contact your local epu and get them to examine you for peace of mind. Sorry you are going through this, it is so stressful. Sending love xx

As another poster has suggested too, I recommend putting them in rectally as then you avoid the irritation. It's also less messy.

I had bright red bleeding with my IVF pregnancy and it turned out to be a SCH, which are more common with IVF. All was fine (although I was convinced at the time it wasn't) and baby is here with me now!

Thanks everyone. I've got a scan on Thursday so I guess I will know then one way or the other! Cervical erosion seems like the culprit to me, so let's see. Very grateful for your answers, thank you

Hello, just an update. Had the scan today and all is well. It is as you said - cervical erosion. Nice. Am now literally sticking them where the sun doesn't shine!! Only another 5 weeks of them, fingers crossed. Thank you very much for your comments and advice x

It get easier. I found it quite unpleasant but I couldn't cope with the thoughts of more bleeding so I alternated 😂

Yes. I was bleeding / spotting, swapped to rectal insertion primarily. No more bleeding and then about 4/5 weeks later I was finished the pessaries anyway

That's good :) when did the bleeding stop? I'm still bleeding buts brown. I changed how I was using the pessaries just 2 days ago so hoping it does ease off soon x

Me too, had more than usual this morning. I've been alternating and of course had the scan on Thursday which may well have irritated it further. Will switch now to back passage only and see if that helps. I always seem to have some cramping with it too which is always unnerving. Has yours stopped now?
