Sweep question

Forgot to ask my midwife but I am scheduled in for a sweep at the end of the week. Is it advisable for me to take my husband with me (he'd need to take a day off) or am I ok just myself?

Better to go alone, let him save his days ff for when you really need him to,

He'd almost certainly not want to witness it anyway, lol.

You'll be fine on your own.

Lovely thanks ladies. Going to look into the ins and outs of it now (excuse the pun). Really hope I go before it I think.

I have got a sweep on Monday and was wondering the same thing. Don't want my DP to waste a day off unnecessarily. Read this thread and decided to go on my own. Just spoken to a friend who said that she had her sweep in hospital and went into labour within 40 minutes and had the baby (2nd DC same as me) straight away. I am not sure what to do again now. Has anyone else gone into labour straight after a sweep or does this sound unusual. Thanks.

scorpio1 · 17/06/2008 11:49

its quite unusual i think. i went into labour 48 hours later

Lolski - sort of.

I had one sweep at home done by the community mw. I was 4cm dilated, but nothing happened.

48 hours later I went to the hospital for observation (had pre-eclampsia symptoms). Whilst I was there they said 'we might as well do another sweep'. I was still only 4cm at this point, with no contractions at all. They moved me to a delivery room for monitoring. 4 hours later ds2 was born.

FWIW, I didn't take dh with me, but just warned him to be on standby incase things kicked off. He got there in time, so all was well. I'd have found him quite annoying at the sweep and sitting around stage though.

I took dh with me, but i had a late afternoon appointment so he only needed to take the last couple of hrs off work. I went into labour that night, but dh needn't have come to the appointment really. hth
