Had early scan told just one but looks like two?

I had an early scan today- I was told that the top blob was baby and the bottom was yolk sac- I thought that baby was supposed to be connected to the yolk sac? This is my 3rd pregnancy and the others did not look like this. Confused! Has anyone had this before ?

I’d go with a trained sonographers opinion over random ideas from people on Mumsnet.

All I'll say is that my "yolk sac" is 6 and sleeping next to his identical twin brother right now...

I'm not saying sonographers can't make errors. But bear in mind that the qualified, experienced sonographer was analysing continuous live imagery, on a computer monitor with very good resolution. She's have done scans for far more than two pregnancies.

Meanwhile, all the posters on this thread have to go on is a single still image from your scan. And half of us are looking at it on tiny phone screens.

If she made a mistake in identifying a feature, MNers have no chance of getting it right!

Random ideas 😆 I was just asking if anyone else has had the same sort of experience as it looked different and interested me. Chillllll

The yolk sac is not always directly next to the fetus. When I was reading about the Ramzi theory, I saw a few scan pics that had some distance between the embryo and yolk sac and read that can indicate a girl. However, I can’t recall reading if it was scientifically proven or just a myth but they are definitely out there.

How many weeks are you?
Possibly too early to tell, could they pick up the heart beat?

Yeah but sometimes those "yolk sac" grow legs and arms and come out sassy 😂

I was 6 weeks + 5 here only saw one heartbeat! Have another scan on Friday
