Amniocentesis following previous miscarriages?

Has anyone had an amniocentesis following previous miscarriages?

At our 20 week scan it was discovered our baby has bilateral talipes and we are being advised to consider amniocentesis to check for genetic abnormalities.

We would like to do it to be sure, but I know there’s a miscarriage risk. This is my third pregnancy and the first two both ended in miscarriage at 10 weeks. I’m wondering whether history of miscarriage will make it more likely that I’ll miscarry due to the amniocentesis.

Any experiences would be much appreciated

I don’t know if previous miscarriages would make it more likely, my feeling is it would be unrelated as most miscarriages are related to the embryo health. Amnio is a pretty safe procedure, I've read in more than one place that the risk of miscarriage is more like 1 in 800 than the 1 in 200 that I think the NHS quotes. It's done under ultrasound guidance. I haven't had an amnio but I have a CVS which is very similar, but samples rhe placenta at an earlier gestation

Best of luck for the amnio and your results at what I'm sure ia a very stressful time xx

Will the results of the amino affect your decision to continue the pregnancy?
If not, then it might be something that doesn't offer you a lot of value for the risk.
