Bleeding early pregnancy

Hey, wanted to reach out to see if anyone else has experienced anything similar with a good outcome. I recently found out I am pregnant, I’ve had 8 previous miscarriages. Around 4 days ago I started bleeding, initially was very light and brownish but has since turned bright red with a few small clots. I visited the EPU on Monday 9th Feb where they confirmed there is a sack with a baby but too early to detect heartbeat. Since my bleeding has become worse I have asked if it would be possible to have more bloods taken to see what my HCG levels are but this has been denied as they said they have already confirmed there is a child present but I’m panicking as obviously the bleed has gotten worse. I have no pains and I’m also taking cyclogest pessaries. Do you think I should push more for bloods? I just don’t know that I can wait until next Monday for another scan 😔😢

I am so sorry you're going through this and for your previous losses, the wait must be absolute tortue...The limbo is the worst place to be!
So with my daughter, I started bleeding bright red at 6 weeks, and I mean heavy. Huge clots.. went for a scan, all was fine. I bled daily, not as heavy, but still with clots, still bright red, all day everyday until about week 10. At week 10, I had another huge gush of blood, huge clots, had another scan, all was fine... and then just stopped bleeding, she has just turned 4 years old.
With this pregnancy, I started spotting brown, pink, at about 5 weeks. Turned to red for one day, went for a scan, all was fine. Spotting continued, one day I had bright red with a tiny clot, spotting continued daily, brown, pink, red until about 8 weeks. I'm currently 9+2 so not out of the woods yet but last scan showed baby was fine.
With my miscarriage, I didn't have any spotting, I just had severe cramping followed instantly by bleeding and clots.

It's so difficult to know what's going on, and the not knowing is unbearable isn't it. Praying all goes well for you and the wait until Monday goes by fast.

How far gone are you? Can you get a private scan? See if they can detect a heartbeat or a reason for the bleeding?? Xx

It’s just awful isn’t it! They basically told me that a blood test for HCG isn’t always accurate and wouldn’t necessarily tell me what was happening with the pregnancy so they are asking I wait until Monday but it is actual torture and no miscarriage is the same so I just cant compare! I’m glad that all is going well so far in your current pregnancy and I’ll keep everything crossed that it stays that way!
so at my scan they said I was just under 6 weeks. I have been contemplating today whether to book a private scan, just because I don’t feel like mentally I can wait until Monday and then at least I know for sure what’s happening Xx

Yes it really is... to them, they're checking you aren't in any immediate physical danger, but to you, the mental emotional side of things is absolutely awful!
I really feel for you, it's the worst feeling, the not knowing.
I know if it was me, I'd probably book a private scan, but it doesn't take much for me to want to book a scan and check all is well!! I really hope everything turns out well whatever you decide to do! ❤️
My EPU wouldn't contemplate HCG tests either, they scanned me once at 5w6 days and left me to it which is why I booked a private scan at 7w4 because I was still bleeding and the EPU only wanted to know if I was soaking a pad every hour...

Keep us updated! Keeping everything crossed for you xxx

I've had it both ways.

But with DD2 I bled from 6 weeks all the way through to nearly 30 weeks on and off.

I had to adopt the approach of repeating, I'm pregnant until I know I'm not. It helped with the uncertainty of not knowing if it was bad or not.

I did have private scans after every bleed. I had a lovely lovely lady at my local scanning place that would let me whatsapp her and she would try and fit me in for a quick scan whenever I bled - just to confirm whether DD was still hanging in there and it was very helpful with my little mantra that I mentioned above.

Fingers crossed for you. Bleeding really can go either way, hopefully it's on the good side for you.

Abbeywx1 · 12/02/2026 18:51

Yeah I do understand obviously there’s a lot of women who go through the same thing but you always want to put yourself first and give yourself every possible hope so I guess in my head the HCG would of helped but knowing they won’t do it, I have gone ahead and booked a private scan for tomorrow morning. I’m just trying to rest as much as possible and keeping everything crossed

I think I might also adopt your thought process of “I’m pregnant until I’m not”. I am trying to stay as positive as possible and I’m glad now that I will know by tomorrow instead of waiting all weekend for an outcome. I’ll keep you guys posted 🤞🏽🙏🏽❤️

Good luck for tomorrow, hope all goes well and you can relax a little!! I dont blame you at all, I'd have done the exact same thing! Hopefully you can get a good sleep and tomorrow you will know. Will be thinking of you and hoping for the best outcome! 🙏 Xx

Wirelessbird · 13/02/2026 07:46

Good luck for your scan today. The anxiety is horrible, but hopefully there will be some reassurance for you soon.

I had bleeding on and off from seven weeks until ten weeks. Four scans in that time and never any reason for the bleeding found. I’m currently 21 weeks. I had no idea how common this was until I stayed looking in to it.

crossing my fingers for you today. Keep @stackhead’s mantra in your mind. Concentrate on making your out breath longer than your in breath while you’re waiting, that is great for managing stress and gives you something to concentrate on while waiting for the scan x

MyBadday · 13/02/2026 07:53

Sending best thoughts.

Lyndsey8880 · 13/02/2026 08:40

Good luck for today! Xx

Abbeywx1 · 13/02/2026 12:15

Hey all, I had my scan earlier and I’m overwhelmed to say that all seems fine! I couldn’t quite believe it but the lady had a real good look and reassured me. I’m measuring at 6 weeks+2 and she did manage to find a heartbeat too 🥰 thankyou all so much for your thoughts ❤️ it’s deffo given me the reassurance I needed before my apt on Monday. They have still suggested I rest plenty and keep an eye on the bleed but I’m taking today as a win ❤️🙏🏽 xx

That’s great news! My obstetrician was a miscarriage expert and said loads of women bleed in pregnancy and at least half are fine. She also just scanned to see if a baby was there, no bloods. I had really heavy bleeding from 12 weeks for 6-7 weeks, she’s 17 now 🤩 - funnily enough my DS13, I had him at 40, complete text book pregnancy … anyway great news about the baby, oh and because there’s a heart beat my dr told me that the chance of miscarriage reduces enormously from what was the. 1 in 4 (18 years ago)

Wirelessbird · 13/02/2026 19:53

Oh this is such good news! I am so happy for you. Please take the advice to rest, I know it’s easier said than done but after my bleed the doctor said the same. ♥️

Daisysandviolets · 13/02/2026 20:35

So pleased you had your scan today! I had a lot of bleeding in early pregnancy with my DD who is now 3! Take it easy ❤️

Thankyou x naturally you panic when you see any bleeding but it always just makes me so scared because of what I’ve experienced before but I’m trying my hardest to stay positive and praying for the best ❤️

This post has helped me immensely, thank you for sharing and I am so glad your scan went well. I am in a similar situation and timing. I found out last week I was pregnant whilst I had a Nexacon implant in, had that removed on Monday. I started 9th). I had spotting brown from Monday (before implant was removed), now we are at saturday i have bright red blood but no pain and some clots. It feels like alot of blood. I also have a scan booked on mon, so until then I am focusing on resting, breathing and I like that mantra!

We lost the baby :(

They think it stopped developing a few weeks ago and miscarried over the weekend. Very sad! 🩵
