Should I buy something to prevent stretch marks or is it a waste of time?

What do you think?

I'm 19 weeks preg (almost!!) and my friends say I should be putting something on my little bump.

Do stretch mark creams/ lotions work?

Someone recommended bio-oil but its tres expensive and I don't want to buy it if I'm going to get stretch marks anyway...

what about palmers cocoa butter?

Any advice would be gratefully received!!

Anyone tried the Weleda Stretch Mark oil? I got stretch marks during puberty on my behind and not looking forward to adding to it with the pregnancy!

I've got this theory that old mothers don't get them.

I got plenty during puberty, on my bum, thighs and even calves.

I didn't get any in pregnancy, but I gave birth for the first time at 40.

I did use loads of creams, they might have worked but it could just be that older skin is stretches without getting stretch marks. On OBEM, for example, it always seems to be the young girls that have the really red marks.

Can anyone say they've got them after, say, 35?

Just read this:Adrenocorticotropic hormone prods the adrenal glands to pump out hormones that contribute to stretch marks and swelling,

On this site here

Perhaps there are natural variations as to how much of this hormone individuals produce. Have seen some really sore looking stretch marks, but have not suffered from the personally.

I used it in the initial period of my pregnancy but didn't notice any improvement.
