purplish spot on leg

on my calf - it's a purplish spot... I thought it was a bruise, but doesn't hurt at all. Nothing is sticking out of it. Just purple... this is week 3 that it's been there and colour hasn't faded! Starting to worry - I'm 23 weeks.

Maybe thread veins? I have a cluster on my calf that appeared during pregnancy. They look like a bruise too.

Would suggest getting it checked out. More prone to DVT during pregnancy which can be pretty serious.

thanks for quick reply! I have an appointment with dr/midwife on wednesday... ok to wait until then?

it's unlikely to be a DVT, you tend to get swelling and pain in your calf, not a painless purple patch. I agree, sounds like a thread vein or an early varicose vein (these tend to stick out only when standing up and not when lying down), nothing to worry about, just an unsightly consequence of pregnancy. should be ok to wait until weds unless you get pain and swelling as described..

well.... no swelling, but definite leg cramps that wake me up at night (not during the day) but I understand that those are pretty normal anyway. It doesn't stick out at all. If it is a vericose vein, does it disappear after pregnancy? I looked up dvt and now feel sick... feel better that it's unlikely to be...

Agree with cass66, you're unlikely to be able to actually see a DVT, as it affect the veins deep in the leg, not superficial veins. With DVT, you gen get swelling and leg pain (not cramp), and some discolouration over whole limb, not just a small patch.

I had a small purple patch on my leg a couple of weeks ago, not painful or raised. Thought it might be the start of a varicose vein, but it's cleared up now. (And I've had a DVT, nothing like this, so don't worry!)
