I just start heaving as soon as I do.

I can't use any other flavoured toothpastes as its all the same, mint just make me vomit but the thought of strawberry toothpaste is even worse!

I brush my teeth then throw up

Yep, - I do it in stages! Try and concentrate on other things, because thinking about 'avoiding' throwing up always makes it worse!!

I couldn't brush my teeth without throwing up when pregannt with DD2 and Ds2. It was the toothpaste, I had to just brushw ith water

EffiePerine · 14/06/2008 11:40

I get this too - was hoping it would ease off soon. What about that bicarb toothpaste that isn't minty?

it's the brushing rather than the mint that I have prbs with

usually makes me retch too. Plus of course my gums gush with blood too - it's great fun isn't it

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 14/06/2008 12:06

Yeah I was the same when I was pg, either just use water or perhaps try some of that powdered smokers toothpaste? it is minty but I managed with it. Just avoid the tongue, if you can. Sympathies! If I recall correctly it wasn't as bad towards the end of the pregnancy.

I was like this for a few weeks. Cut down to one brushing a day, with a tiny amount of toothpaste, and mouthwash at other times. I was in hospital with hyperemisis and anything I swallowed made me throw up. I couldn't even have a shower without throwing! It was a very smelly time.

I've got this at the moment - didn't have it with my other pgs. Glad to hear I'm not a lone freak! I think it is mainly an excess saliva problem with me - my mouth fills up with too much saliva and toothpaste. Spitting out the toothpaste mid brush helps.

shabster · 15/06/2008 08:49

OMG you took me back to 1981 with this thread. Pregnant with twins although didnt find that out till 10 days before they were born at 38 weeks gestation!!

My sense of smell was hightened to the extreme and as for brushing my teeth I couldnt brush the front teeth let alone anything else!

Even now I daren't think about it too much when I am brushing my teeth because it makes me gag

reban · 15/06/2008 17:44

ive stopped feeling sick when i brush my teeth but my mouth just fills with blood from my gums .. most unpleasant

chocbiscuits · 15/06/2008 21:51

I get retching always, seems to help to spit toothpaste out a lot, good luck.

Merryoncemore · 16/06/2008 10:03

I'm now 30 weeks and still suffering from this, I have discovered however that I can get away with using a mouthwash before brushing whereas I can't afterwards as it makes me retch more. So now it's mouthwash, rinse and then brush for as long as possible whilst wandering around the bathroom thinking of other things until my stomach starts flipping.

I've also been tols that if you do throw up not to try rebrushing your teeth as the stomach acid in your mouth along with the toothbrush action can do serious damage.

Beautiful subject but glad to kow it's not only me.

sketti · 16/06/2008 22:42

yep i had it too!is't it enough no goodness goes to our teeth, it goes adventually though!

PInkyminkyohnooo · 16/06/2008 22:46

I have this problem, too. A bit of mouthwash. Using the toothbrush dry with paste- no water, then a quick rinse. Flossing is ok.

SlightlyMadSweet · 16/06/2008 22:48

I was the same.

I found that I could do a reasonable job straight after tea - which I did. And then I just waved a toothbrush in the direction of my mouth at bedtime.

It went with the MS.

I was the same. It got worse with each pregnancy, and tbh, ds is 2 and I still gag when brushing my back teeth
